Chapter 1

Jessi stepped off the bus and looked around. She could not believe that her parents had sent her back to Oklahoma for the school year.

"New York just has too bad of an influence on you," her mother had said. "You can live with your aunt and uncle and you can come back here for the summer."

"Whatever," Jessi mumbled as she pushed her way through the crowd of hugging people.

"There she is," her uncle said.

"Look at what she's wearing!" her aunt exclaimed as she watched Jessi walk towards them. Jessi was wearing some crisp-blue flare jeans, a halter top, which exposed her pierced belly button, and her brown hair was swept into a casual pony tail.

"That's the style, mother" Amy, Jessi's cousin, insisted.

"Not here it is," her mother said as she snubbed her nose at Jessi. "Nice to see you, Jessi."

"Likewise," Jessi cooly retorted. This is gonna be great, Jessi thought.

"Nice shirt, can I borrow it sometime?" Amy asked.

"Sure," Jessi said.

"I think not," her aunt put in. Jessi rolled her eyes and pushed past her aunt. She walked to her uncle's Ford and chunked her bag in the back of the truck. She squeezed in the back with Amy and they headed toward her knew home. Her uncle and aunt lightly chatted and Jessi just tuned them out and stared out of the window. She then pulled out her walkman and popped in her Hanson cd. As she was drowning in "Yearbook," she noticed that they had passed their original turn.

"Hey," Jessi began, "you missed the turn."

"No, we moved to Tulsa," her uncle said cheerfully. Jessi turned her Hanson case over in her hands. The Hansons lived in Tulsa. Oh, it would be great if she could meet them. Yeah righ, she scolded herself, wake up, Jessi.

"Here's your room," Amy said cheerfully. "Ugh!" she said as she looked at Jessi's hands, "Hanson."

"I like them," Jessi said defensively.

"Whatever," Amy said as she left the room.

Jessi dropped her bags and flopped onto her bed. She instantly sat up. She had to get out of that house, take a walk, or something. She jogged down the stairs, and yelled, "I'm walking to the park."

"Be back in by dinner, which is a couple of hours away," her aunt called, but received a slammed door as a response.

Jessi started walking toward the park. She couldn't get the fact that Hanson lived in her town out of her mind. She continued in walking, absorbed by her thoughts, when she heard someone yell, "Heads up!"
