Chapter 12

"Have a good day at school," Isaac said cheerfully as he and Taylor dropped Jessi off at school.

"Yeah, sure," Jessi replied.

"I'll see you after school," Taylor said.

"Yeah, bye," Jessi said and then leaned into the car to give Taylor a quick kiss.

"Bye," Taylor said.

A few minutes later, as Isaac and Taylor were driving home, Isaac asked, "How did you and Jessi get together?"

"It's a weird story, Isaac. Can I trust you enough not to tell?"

"Yes."

Taylor gave the explanation of how Jessi had jumped up screaming and begging someone not to hurt her. "I finally got her to tell me what was wrong."

"Well?"

"The reason she pushed us away is because," Taylor said, "she was raped."

Isaac stopped the car. "Are you serious?"

"Yes," Taylor said sadly.

"Oh my God," Isaac breathed as he sank back in his seat. "No wonder it took her awhile to warm up to us."

"Yeah, but I think she will slowly begin to heal now that she's told someone."

"That poor girl," Isaac muttered as he started the car.

Jessi walked into the school building aimlessly. She could not believe that she and Taylor were a couple. She then realized that she needed to concentrate on school. She asked the first person she saw where the office was.

"Second hall, first room on the left," he said.

"Thanks," she said as she headed in that direction. She walked into the office and went to the first secretary's desk she saw. "I'm new and I need to get my schedule."

"Name please."

"Jessi Jones."

"Just one moment," the secretary said and went to a room in the back corner. While the secretary was gone, Jessi looked around. She glanced in the hall and saw someone who looked just like Steve. She took deep breaths and grabbed a chair to steady herself. No way could he be here! She made sure that no one but Christina knew she was here. She had to go see if it was him. She ran to the door of the office just in time to see the boy turn around. No, it wasn't him. Jessi breathed a sigh of relief. "Here it is," the secretary said brightly. "Have a great day here at Carter High."

By lunch Jessi was exhausted. She hated being new at school. She had already had to introduce herself four times and still had three more classes to go. And now, she had to find a place to st. Her worst fear was finding a seat in a new cafeteria. Although she was a junior, some under classmen could have reserved tables and seats.

Her problems were solved when Judy, a girl in her third period class, bounced up to her and said, "Hey, Jessi!"

"Hey, Judy!" Jessi said and smiled.

"Wanna come sit at my table and meet some of my friends?"

"That would be great, Judy."

"Who invented electricity?" Diana asked. "Taylor?"

"Jessi," Taylor replied.

"Taylor," Diana said, "according to you, Jessi was the first president of the United States, invented the atom, and just now invented electricity."

"Sorry, mom," Taylor said sheepisly.

"Just pay attention to your school work," Diana lightly scolded.

"Yes, mom. I just hope her first day of school went well."

"I'm sure it did, dear," Diana said as she smiled.

After school, Jessi went to her aunt's house and dropped off her books. Nobody was home, so she wrote her aunt a note. I'll call Christina when I get back, she thought. I have so much to tell her and Taylor she thought happily as she walked out of the house. She started walking towards the Hanson's house. I still can't believe I am Taylor Hanson's girlfriend. He is so cute she thought as she smiled.

"I hope that smile was for me," Taylor called from his front porch.

"Who else would it have been for?" she teased.

"Hopefully no one else," he said and smiled. "How was school?"

"Tiring," she said as she plopped onto the porch swing. "This school is kicking my butt."

Taylor laughed and said, "It'll get better, you'll see."

"I met a group of girls today."

"That's good, Jessi."

"Yeah, I though so too. They are wanting to start a girl group and want me to audition tomorrow after school."

"Are you going to?" Taylor asked.

"I don't know yet," Jessi contemplated.

"Can you sing?"

"Yeah," Jessi said and slightly blushed.

"Well, do you want to audition?"

"I don't know yet. I'll have to think about it."

"Well," Taylor said, "whatever you decide, I will be behind you."

"Thank you,Taylor," Jessi said as she slipped her arm around his waist.
