Chapter 18

Three hours later, Taylor pulled his car into the Hanson driveway.

"Jessi, I need to tell you something."

"What is it, Taylor?" Jessi asked.

"I know Christmas is still weeks away, but...."

Jessi didn't like the sound of this. "What is it?" she asked him softly.

"I won't be here for Christmas," Taylor sighed.

"What!" Jessi could not keep the shrillness out of her voice.

"We have to leave the week before Christmas. We have a series of Christmas performances and interviews to do in New York and California. Jessi, I'm so sorry."

"When will you be back?"

"The day after New Years," Taylor said.

Jessi sank back in her seat and stared out the window. She hardly saw Taylor and now she would spend Christmas and New Years alone.

"Jessi, I'm really sorry," Taylor said again.

"I know, Taylor. It's OK," Jessi said as she kissed his cheek.

"Thank you," Taylor said and then kissed her. As they were kissing, Jessi's mind was wandering. It seemed that she was seeing less and less of Taylor, and she really loved him. It literally killed her heart to be away from him.

Taylor broke the kiss and said, "Jessi, what's wrong?"

"Nothing," Jessi lied.

"Please don't lie to me," Taylor said. "You were distant during that kiss, so please tell me what you were thinking."

"I was thinking that I hardly see you any more," Jessi began. "It really hurts me to be apart from you," she said as tears formed in her eyes.

"It hurts me too," Taylor said.
