Chapter 22

After the fair, Jessi and the rest of The Four Angels were supposed to perform. The group was a buzz of excitement and nervousness. They were to perform a few songs, including Friends Forever, and then give a little interview.

Their first song was going to be "Genie In A Bottle" and they were dressed in a genie outfit. They were exposing their stomachs, and the sleeves to the top and the legs of the pants were sheer. The rest of the group was chattering with excitement, but Jessi just sat in the corner. Taylor had missed so many of her performances. It discouraged her that the one she loved was unable to see her perform. She wiped the tears from her eyes. I'm being selfish again, she scolded herself. She put on her happy face and went to perform.

"Do you have boyfriends?" the reporter asked.

"No," Judy, Ashley, and Christy answered.

"Yes," Jessi answered.

"Is he here?" the reporter asked.

"No," Jessi snapped. The reporter backed off. Judy jabbed her elbow into Jessi's side.

"Cool it," Judy hissed. Jessi didn't know how she made it through the rest of the interview, but she did. As soon as she signed a few autographs, she went to her apartment and cried.

Taylor sat in his hotel room and glanced at his watch. Jessi would be performing right now. He sighed sadly. She had had ten performances since her group got together. How many had he seen? None, he thought sadly. Taylor gazed out the window.

"Tay, we're going for pizza," Zac said. "You wanna come?"

"No," Taylor said without looking up.

A few hours later, the family returned from dinner. Taylor had spent a long time thinking and had reached a conclusion. As his parents were putting Avery, Mackenzie, Jessica, and Zoe to bed, Taylor said, "Isaac, I need to talk to you."
