Chapter 23

Taylor came back to Tulsa on Saturday afternoon. He and Jessi spent all day Sunday together. They roller bladed through the park, had a picnic lunch, and caught an afternoon movie. Jessi was happy but she noticed that Taylor didn't seem like himself. She hoped he would tell her what was the matter with him.

Two weeks before Jessi had to leave, Isaac called her.

"Jessi, I need to talk to you about something that I should have told you two months ago," Isaac said.

"I'll be over in a few minutes," Jessi said.

"No!" Isaac practically yelled, but then lowered his voice and said, "Taylor can't here this."

"Well, can you come over now?" Jessi asked.

"I'll be there in a few minutes," Isaac said and quietly hung up the telephone. Isaac hated doing what he was about to do, but he had to. Isaac went to the room he and his brothers shared. He went to one of the dressers and looked in the drawer with Taylor's socks in it. He reached in the back left corner of the drawer and pulled out Taylor's journal. He hated violating his brother's privacy, but this situation was necessary.

Isaac passed the living room and saw Zac playing video games and Taylor was gazing out of the window. "Zac," Isaac hissed.

Zac looked up and saw Isaac motioning for him to come into the kitchen. "What is it?" Zac asked.

"Whatever you do, do not let Taylor go in our room, OK?" Isaac ordered.

"OK, but why?" Zac began.

"I'll tell you later," Isaac interrupted and walked out of the door.
