Chapter 26

Jessi and Taylor walked into the living room and sat on the couch.

"Is there something you need to tell me?" Jessi asked.

Taylor looked at the floor and muttered, "No."

"How is the band going?" Jessi nonchalantly asked.

Taylor jerked his head up and looked into her eyes. "You know, don't you?" he asked.

"Yes," Jessi replied quietly. Taylor ran his hand through his hair, stood up, walked to the window, and gazed down at the passing traffic. "Taylor, please come sit down," Jessi asked. Taylor stayed in front of the window and continued to stare at the traffic. Jessi walked to him and put her hand on his shoulder. "Taylor, please, don't shut me out," Jessi said softly as she stepped in his line of vision. She looked into his eyes, but he wouldn't meet her gaze. "Just tell me why," Jessi whispered.

Taylor, completely ignoring Jessi, walked to the couch and sat down.

"Don't do this," Jessi pleaded. "We only have a few days left."

"You think I don't know that?!" Taylor snapped. "I spend every day knowing that it is one less day we have together!"

"That doesn't mean that you should throw away your career!" Taylor wouldn't answer her. "You love music."

"I love you too! I can't have both, so I'd rather have you."

"What do you mean you can't have both?"

"Go look in your journal," Taylor said coldly.

"I should be furious that you read my journal, but I'm not. Taylor, I was trying to think of what was best for you."

"What is best for me," Taylor said, "is being with you. It kills me to know that you'll be leaving soon."

"Taylor, do you love me?" Jessi asked.

"Yes! I can't believe you even have to ask."

"If you really love me," Jessi said "then don't quit the band."

"Don't," Taylor began, but Jessi put her fingers on his lips.

"If you really love me, then you'll continue with your love for music," Jessi said firmly.

"I'll think about it," Taylor reluctantly agreed.

"Thank you," Jessi said as she hugged him. Taylor kissed her and Jessi wished the kiss would never end.
