Chapter 28

They returned home half an hour later.

"I want to fix you dinner," Taylor said.

"OK, but I get to help," Jessi said. She and Taylor spent the next hour fixing a salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and garlic toast. They sat down and shared a candle-lit dinner and talked. They avoided Jessi's flight to New York the next night.

"Lets go watch a movie," Taylor said.

"We can't leave this mess!" Jessi exclaimed. "Help me wash these dishes," she said as she began running some hot water into the sink. Just as they were finishing up, Taylor popped her on the butt with his dish cloth. "Hey!" Jessi shrieked and threw some soap bubbles at him. Taylor laughed and popped her again. Jessi splashed some water on him. Before she knew it, they were both soaking wet. "OK, OK, I surrender," Jessi laughed. "Now, what am I going to change into?"

"I've got something you can wear, come on," Taylor said as he started walking towards his room.

"Where is everyone?" Jessi asked.

"At grandma's house. They'll be home later."

"Oh," Jessi said. They walked in Taylor's room and Taylor began looking for something for Jessi to wear. Jessi walked to the bunk bed and laid down on the bottom bunk. She looked up and saw pictures of her taped on the bottom of the top bunk. There were pictures from magazines and a few pictures of her and Taylor. She glanced at Taylor and saw him blush.

"I have those up there," Taylor shyly began, "because the last thing I see when I go to sleep and the first thing I see when I wake up is you."

"Oh, Taylor," Jessi said as she got up, walked to him, and put her arms around him, "I don't want this night to end."

"I don't either," Taylor said. They stood there in each other's arms for quite some time until Taylor quietly said, "Let me get you some clothes and lets go watch the movie." They parted and Taylor went to his dresser and pulled out a navy blue sweatshirt and some green and blue flannel boxers. "Here," he said as he handed them to her.

"You won't be getting these back," Jessi said. "I want all the memories I can have."

"I know," Taylor said sadly.

After the movie was over, Jessi and Taylor sat on the couch holding each other. His family was not home yet and there was an unbearable silence between them.

"Jessi, I'm going to miss you so much."

"I'm going to miss you too, Taylor," Jessi said and then kissed him. As they were kissing, Taylor leaned over and turned out the light.
