p i c k s o f 98 by Elena Cabrera

Elena Cabrera selects for you what's been the most interesting of the year. She writes for aB magazine, runs a tape label called auto-reverse and even has time to be part of sukiyaki, a band which all three members are music critics!.

Mezzanine by Massive Attack, when elegance turns to wicked.
The boy with the arab strap by Belle & Sebastian,
although it hasn't been a surprise, I like them a lot.
Come From Heaven by Alpha,
it has warm and odd moments equally.
Aquí vivía yo by Le Mans,
well, it's wonderful.
Parade by Parade.
I don't have more to add which it haven't been said before.

I don't read much current literature, that is to say, I'm not really up-to-date... there's so much for reading!. I bought a lot of books but I read slowly. I'm now reading Tim Burton by Tim Burton, issued by Mark Salisbury; it was a Xmas present from Aldo. Other books I enjoyed this year were País de nieve by Yasunari Kawabata, Pablo y Virginia by Marcel Mithois, En Grand Central Station me senté y lloré by Elizabeth Smart and Conversations with Anaïs Nin, among others.

It happens some similar to books, I prefer to go to Filmoteca (film archives) or see tv films at early morning rather than film premiéres. The best film I've seen this year was El Infierno by Claude Chabrol. The other films I've seen didn't impact me much. I haven't seen "Hanna-bi" and "Hapiness" yet, I think they could be interesting.

My prefered gigs this year were:
Kraftwerk at Sonar, Barcelona: I never thought I'll see them playing live someday and liked so much. It's like if my wishes of getting back to the past were fulfilled. It was the best ever scenography I've ever seen.
Massive Attack at Festimad, Madrid: I've never seen a catharsis so impressive. I hope not to forget the ending with that crescendo while it was rainning and as cold as ice. I've seen twice this year and I think Daddy G is one of the most cool person I've ever seen.
Depeche Mode October 16 at Barcelona: seeing one of the bigger pop bands isn't go unnoticed. It was vibrant. I liked so much to see David Gahan is in good shape after he was nearly dead. I was overawed by the connection with the audience. It's the dream of the pop myth... who doen't yearn for it?.

I'll tell Souvenir if you were not asking me. If I were not a member, I tell you Sukiyaki Website. So these are the ones that I find more interestings:

Momus pages are still my favorite site: http://www.demon.co.uk/momus/

I can't deny that aB is my favorite, among other things because I spend so much time for it. Rockdelux has improved with the new design but it bores me quickly and I can't finish to read it. My favorite fanzine is Croissant 001, I think it has style. About foreign press, I've read i-D and Vogue Italia, which I didn't know until this year. I'm really interested in fashion and try to learn what I can.

I've choosen: Depeche Mode singles compilation 86-98 and the 81-85 compilation. Second one is Field Mice's Sarah compilation. And also Eggstone's Spanish Slalom on Siesta.
