Hip Hop is over twenty years old. Topping all other forms of music in sales in 1997, Hip Hop has truly become an international phenomenon. But it has lost much of its original essence. No longer does the majority of it have the gritty, street feel it had. Instead, the underground appeal Hip Hop once had has been replaced by a slicker, pop approach. Blame it on the record companies looking for a fast dollar, blame it on MTV; they're all at fault. But so is the everyday consumer who supports weak, watered down rap. And so is the artist who sells his fucking soul to the highest bidder.
