What I Did On My Holidays
______________________

Arrived in Derby at 6.55pm; concert due to start at 7.30pm.
Assembly Rooms car park full because ELO (!) playing there (*).Feck.

Got stuck in queue for about 10 mins, then managed to extricate self & head off in search of alternative parking.
Drove round city centre for a few minutes, following "P" signs, then stumbled across Chapel St multi-storey which was
a) sparsely populated,
b) free,  and
c) close to the cathedral (although I didn't know it at the time).
Having parked, I accosted a hapless passer-by & demanded to know whereabouts of said building.
"Just down the end of that street there" quoth she. And she was not wrong.

Arrived, breathless, at cathedral at 7.34pm, missing only about the first minute of Detlef & Mario's set.
D&M played for about 50 minutes in all.
The first piece was from their "Sakrale Töne" album, and the second was a
shortened version of the first track on Detlef's new album, "The Other Face".

Both were excellent, but they were unfortunately marred by technical problems,
particularly the second piece.
It sounded like either the PA amp or their mixer kept giving up the ghost & cutting out;
it happened once during the first piece, and about 5 times during the second,
but they struggled on manfully & were rewarded with an excellent reception from the audience
(about 250, I should think).

Then we had the interval, which I spent chatting with Asana Dave & a group of his mates.
While we were talking D&M came over & joined us.
They were obviously disappointed that their first UK gig had been blighted by gremlins,
but they were happy with their performance & with the reception. A couple of v. decent & jovial chaps.

Then it was Code:Indigo's turn.
Forget "For Whom The Bell..."; this was a completely new set
(although bits of it crop up on their limited edition "Live At Duisburg" CD).
They played solidly for almost exactly an hour; no breaks, no between-song banter.
They have a much harder edge now; the new guitarist has a much more forceful presence than his
predecessor (can't remember either of their names), and they use sequences & rhythms much more now.
It was a cracking set & went down a storm.

They did one encore which lasted about 10 minutes and then it was time to go home.

I left the cathedral just after 10.30pm, rescued the car, fought my way out of Derby & headed down the
A52 towards the M1,  only to be greeted by fog. Shitloads of it. All over the fecking place

I finally got home at just after 1am; the drive home was *not* fun.

The End.
