Klaus Schulze: Tradition & Vision
(only available as part of the "Jubilee Edition")

Klaus is just too cool...
A lot of people hate Klaus Schulze with a passion.
He's slow, he's monotonous, he's un/predictable, he's disturbing etc...

I agree on all counts! That's why he's my favourite E.M. musician ever!

If there's one thing that could describe Klaus, it would be his disdain for the ordinary, or living in the past.

O.K., that's two things. "Tradition & Vision" exemplifies Klaus's most recent music direction music to the fullest.

Unfortunately, it's not readily available; Klaus recorded it for the 25 CD limited release (1000 copies), the "Jubilee Edition".

"Tradition & Vision" consists of one long track.
The other participant on this track is Jörg Schaaf, who previously appeared on the Wahnfried "Trance Appeal" album.

According to the album liner notes, it was done in more or less one take according to Klaus D. Mueller
(KS's manager and the creator of the Jubilee Edition).

I can believe it based on the flow of the piece.
Bands aspiring to improvised greatness, take note: these guys did it without nets!!!
As with a typical Schulze release (for the last decade), nothing really happens for the first 24 minutes.
It's just one long, slow build-up to something truly wicked!

Then, out comes the rhythm track (Klaus's Rave-o-lution machine?) and a very evil lead synthesizer.
It's a track that gives you the willies when your hear it.
The percussion slowly cranks into full gear as well and you're lost for a half hour.

Eventually, the piece draws back on KS's "Are You Sequenced" release where variations of this album are played
out for the last 20-30 minutes along with the evil rhythm track.

Overall, T&V was the highlight of the Jubilee Edition release.

Too bad, that meant listening to 24 CD's of relative crap before I figured that out.

Oh well, I look forward to Schulze's next collaboration with Schaaf. "Drums and Balls" will be their next
Wahnfried release later this year (hopefully!!!).
