Legends have been told that bon-fires are set ablaze on sabaths, and that witches dance around the fires after mid-night. This has happend, but we werent witches. In fact, I dont think any of the people that were there knew anything about witchcraft or demonology. It was all perfectly legal, because we werent on the churches property. A friend of my brother, who has passed away since, lived on the farm located behind the church, and this is where the the ceremonies/parties took place. Those days have since passed, but the terror that takes place on the church still exists.
Other legends include standing between two graves and hearing babies crying, all the way to inverted crosses inside the church. What the church does have to offer besides a normal christian service on Sunday mornings is a good setting for ghost stories. But stay away after dark. Its illegal to enter a cemetary after dusk, and they are watching.
The "Old Stone Church" is more less a legendary church that settlers built when first coming to the central Illinois region. This church has been vandalized numerous times in the past and present due to plain ignorance. People, mainly teenagers, believe or like to believe, that the church is a Church of Satan because of its gothic structure. In reality, the church is an Episcapal Church.
