Gary L. Gerber
Gary
is the enigma of the Delirious Tremors, portraying much of the band’s
personality, on and off the stage. He was born in Massillon,
Ohio in 1956, and is known by many as “The Mad Violinist.” As a Gemini,
Gary often displays the dual nature of his self, intelligent, but with
a wild side.
While he approaches his music with thoughtfulness and an experienced
insight, an uninhibited nature is evident in Gary’s persona both on and
off the stage. His wide ranging vocals emphasize the nearness of
our common experience in their delivery. Gary has collaborated with
John on many of the songs, bringing them to completion with a unique, appealing
sound. He describes his electric violin playing as “playing a guitar
with a bow,” which he likes to ‘dirty up’ with effects to produce a driving
rock, Delirious Tremors’ sound. 
Intelligence and popularity have never been in short supply for Gary,
being presented the Eagle Scout Award in 1972, and being elected president
of the Massillon High School junior class in 1973. An early infatuation,
curiosity and sense of adventure led him to California in the mid ‘70’s
which expanded his experience to a greater level.
After nearly a year in the West, Gary returned to the Canton area and
picked up the violin. His great-great uncle was a violin-maker, so
Gary was motivated by a desire to acquire one of the last of those family
heirlooms coupled with a love for music. Much to the dismay of roommates,
Gary practiced hard and eventually had a successful audition with Mr. Roger
E. Zahab at The University of Akron. He appeared on television
four times, and played on the Wall & Frye Album, Head to the Heart.
As
in his music, Gary strives for perfection on the job as a machinist in
Akron, operating a 4-axis, CNC HBM machine. When he finds time, Gary
enjoys salt-water aquariums, war games, and woodworking. His home
contains several great pieces of furniture that were lovingly crafted with
an artistic flair.
As for the future, Gary wants to quit machining (real soon), tour the
world with Delirious Tremors, own at least five hundred acres, and to be
an outstanding violinist. In total agreement with John,
Gary says, “The time is now or never, and I am committed!”
