"Friday On My Mind" is the best album of The Easybeats. Of course they
kept many good songs unreleased, I have to say "This is THE BEST OF ORIGINALLY
RELEASED ALBUMS". Most of their unreleased songs composed well are included
in "The Shame Just Drained". The songs written by Vanda/Young are really
thousands! It was a starting point of their career (The peak of their career was
in the 70's).
This album contains two cover tracks. Though composing by themselves is an originality
of The Easybeats, their "River Deep And Mountain High","Hound Dog"
is excellent! "River" is originally a Ike and Tina Turner's hit song. "Hound
Dog" is a Presley number. The Easybeats are a five-piece band with no keyboards.
The ambient silence of the songs are an essence of garage rock, I think. Both of
them have Easy-sound. (g)
A geek number in this album is "See Line Woman", which is a traditional
song newly arranged by Vanda/Young. I don't know how to express that rythm. It is
a wichy psychedelic song. Maybe Harry chose the song to record. He's on lead vocal
and plays the guitar. In fact it's not so good. But, in 1966, how many groups tried
such a experimental rythm pattern and sound ? It was a simultaneously conducted with
The Beatles' "Tommorrow Never Knows".

These songs could have been A-side of single record. Is there anyone who can tell
me why "Who'll Be The One" was sellected to the next single of "Friday"?
"Friday on My Mind" is the best known song of The Easybeats. It is also
a title number of this album. In the UK this album is named "Good Friday".
Probably the difference of the album name was a strategic error. The Easybeats made
amounts of mistakes and errors. So many versions of a song, Not appropriate in promotion,
And many times of turn style. "Friday On My Mind" is some kind of display
of their confusion. I don't know why the next single of "Friday" was "Who'll
Be The One". Even "Sorry" could be impressive to English people. There
may be a misconception about the band and/or rock music.
The album ends with ominous "See Line Woman". It is not befitting to
such a pop album. Confusion becomes worse in the next album "Vigil". The
second UK album was killed with some reason, and "Vigil" was conducted.
It was a shame that The Easybeats couldn't make their own ideas come true in the
second UK album. In fact, "The Shame Just Drained", which was a compilation
of rare tracks and many of them was from the scrapped album, was better than the
former released albums("Vigil" and "Friends").
