Who are they?

311 started in 1990 in Omaha Nebraska. There first release was Dammit! in 1991, followed by Unity and Hydroponic. Their first major label release was in 1993. The album was titled Music and is a favorite amoung hard core 311 fans although it was not a major success. Their second album, Grassroots, did fairly well underground but again did not get into mainstream. Thier ground breaking album was self-titled and contained 311's first mainstream hits, Down and All Mixed Up. This album strays from the styles introduced on previuos albums but is still unmistakeabley 311. Their forth and lastest release, Transistor, is heavily dub. The lyrics of Transistor are very positive and at times have been called "hippie type lrics" by some. Overall 311 is a very good and original band that blends, hip hop, metal, funk, and many other styles to produce a very unique sound.
