A not very publicized meeting. Those of us that were there went to Pita Jungle for dinner. Very cool place. The pizza pitas are the best.
September 2
A well-attended introductory meeting with lots of random discussion about lesbian/bisexual issues. Where to meet people? Different issues facing the lesbian/bisexual community? I really can't remember exactly, but I know it was thought-provoking.
September 16
We moved to the MU, after being told that we could no longer have the room in Counseling and Consultation at the Student Services Building. No big deal. MU rooms are more friendly (why were we meeting in counseling & consultation!? how did that start??).
After a very insightful ice breaker game orchestrated by Dedee, we ended up chatting about general issues and shared some of our coming out experiences. We also brainstormed about future events and decided to become more of a social group (yet still incorporating discussion into our social activities....).
September 23
After meeting at the Lambda League office, we journeyed to Coffee Plantation where we had some good conversation, ate cookies, drank coffees, and made fun of Andrew Dice Clay (who was wandering around).
September 30
After meeting at the office, we had a movie night in MU Graham--the room with the comfy couches. After contemplating our options (The Incredibly True Story..., All Over Me, an Angela Lansbury movie....I forget the name), we ended up watching Love & Other Catastrophes. A nice relaxing activity in the middle of a stressful week.
October 7
Coffee at Higher Ground. This place has a unique, artsy atmosphere... very inspirational. We sat on the couches and talked about Star Wars tattoos and the meaning of life over coffees.
October 10
The Ani Difranco concert! Ani was her usual witty self and played many of her coolest songs (but not "Untouchable Face"! No fair!). Some of us were in the front row, some of us weren't... but a good time was had by all.
October 14
There was no meeting because we were all recovering from the Coming Out Day festivities. Whew.
October 21
We moved again... this time for good, thanks to Stephanie! Our new home is in the Social Work Building, Conference Room 128. A couple people commented that it was hard to find but don't give up. It's there. And we found that it's a very good locale. The building was actually once a women's dorm, so the auras are just right!
October 28
This was our first meeting after finding out about Melissa Ferrick, so we were pondering the ramifications of where and when it should be and just being excited in general. Talked about the upcoming Lamba League Halloween Party. Planned future activities. Ice skating, anyone??
November 4
This meeting was almost exclusively devoted to Melissa Ferrick. Quite a few people were there! Snack food was provided. Passed around Melissa materials given to us by her record company...found out she has a lot of history and has opened for Melissa Etheridge and Morrissey, among others. We came up with a few questions to ask her during the Q & A session: 'do you have a girlfriend?', 'are you a lesbian?'--all the important ones... j/k, we plan to be a little more subtle. I think! Come on the 18th and find out.
November 11
Veteran's Day. No meeting. Everyone wanted to be faraway from school on their day off.
November 13
Melissa Ferrick poster putting up day. Just to draw a crowd, we're going to cover the campus with posters. If you'd like to help out, e-mail me at gyllene@goodnet.com
November 18
Melissa Ferrick concert. She played 4 songs acoustically incl. "'Til your dead", "Everything I Need", and "Love Song". She also answered various questions in great depth incl. about her experience as a lesbian and how that has affected her career (both in good & bad ways)... a very eloquent speaker, as it turned out and very willing to interact. Afterwards she spoke with everyone and signed posters.
November 18th on--
Socialized, Planned activities for next Semester!,etc.
