Sakaki is quiet and tall. Everyone in the school admires and respects her, but she doesn't care about the attention. She's very good at sports, has a vast knowledge of flowers and has large breasts (a fact that is mentioned several times and she is embarassed about it). She loves cute things, mostly cats. She has cat posters and toys and reads cat books. Unfortunately, most cats don't seem to like her back. Later in the series, she finds a cat and names it Yamamaya. Sakaki is my favorite character.

Chiyo-chan

Chiyo is an 10-year-old genius who gets transferred into high school. She makes 100's on all of her tests and aces all of her classes. One of her only weaknesses is sports, which she is horrible in and has a bond with Osaka because of this. Chiyo is also rich, lives in a mansion, and has a summer house that the group often visit. Chiyo is also extremely cute, a fact that everyone else recognizes but she hates. Chiyo lives with a large dog named Tadakichi.

Ayumu is a transfer student from Osaka and one day Tomo decided to call her "Osaka" from then on and it stuck. Osaka is absent minded. She has trouble concentrating and often falls asleep in class, to the dismay of Yukari-sensai. Osaka also likes to talk about random subjects, such as useless knowledge and word origins. She is horrible in sports and has a bond with Chiyo because of this. She also has a bond with Tomo and Kagura because they are all "blockheads" who make horrible grades in school.

Tomo is loud. She is very energetic, enthusiasic and competitive about everything. She believes she can make the best grades, do the best in sports, be the cutest and be the best overall, when in fact, she can't. She's not that great at anything. She is also very carefree and never wants to be serious. She has a bond with Osaka and Kagura because they are all "blockheads" who make horrible grades in school. Tomo also is a longtime schoolmate of Yomi and she often looks to Yomi for approval. They often engage in friendly fights.

Yomi is the most level headed of the group. She doesn't really have any specific identifying trait like the rest of the girls, other than wearing glasses. Yomi is a longtime schoolmate of Tomo and they often engage in friendly fights. Yomi is obsessed with dieting and her weight in general. She even writes in to radio talk shows. Yomi likes amusement parks, especially roller coaster rides. It has also been discovered (after a night of karaoking) that Yomi can't sing.

Kagura transfers into the girls' class in the second year. She is very good in sports and very athletic. She sees Sakaki as a rival (even though Sakaki doesn't care) but often ends up competing with Tomo because they are both energetic and competitive. Kagura has a bond with Osaka and Tomo because they are all "blockheads" who make horrible grades in school. She also seems to not like cats. Kagura belongs to the swim team and so is permanently very tan. She also jogs on her free time.

Kaorin is not as much a major character and so does not appear very often, although she is a part of the main group. She belongs to the astrology club and because of those duties, often does not engage in as many activities with the other girls as she'd like. In her last year, Kaorin is switched into Kimura's class, who she is very creeped out by but still tries to find his good traits. Also, Kaorin is completely and utterly obsessed with Sakaki. She gets nervous talking to her and gets jealous when others do. She even has a dream of Sakaki saving her from weirdos, riding in on a white horse.

Yukari is the main homeroom teacher and she is also the English teacher. She is a very eccentric and unconventional teacher and is often late to school. She changes grade levels with her students because she doesn't want to remember any new names. Yukari is sometimes immature and messy and she also drinks a lot. Yukari is longtime friends with Nyamo, and often competes against her. Yukari is also a horrible driver.

Nyamo (a name given to her by Yukari) is the school's gym teacher. Both as a teacher and as a person, she is very well liked. She is not very good in any other subjects other than athletics. Nyamo is longtime friends with Yukari and is often held blackmail from past grudges or experiences. Nyamo is a light drinker and becomes drunk easily, sharing revealing secrets. She is also single and worries about getting a boyfriend.

Kimura is a male teacher at the girls' high school. He is very strange and always has his mouth open. He openly admits that he became a teacher because he likes high school girls. He often watches the girls on the swim team or in gym class to see them in skimpy outfits. He also makes suggestions to how they should wera their gym clothes to be more revealing. Kimura is married to a very nice and beautiful but clumsy woman and they have a young daughter. He also seems to be slightly obsessed with Kaorin.
