'Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne' is the story of 16-year-old Maron, who is a reincarnation of Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc). With the help of Fin Fish(an angel) Maron transforms into Kaito Jeanne and seals demons (hidden in paintings) in chess pieces. Her best friend Miyako, the daughter of the police chief, is determined to capture Jeanne. Chiaki is new in town and lives in the same apartment comples as Maron and Miyako, he also starts attending their school. Chiaki is actually Sinbad, another Kaito (thief) who competes with Jeanne for demons/chess pieces. Chiaki has his own helper angel named Axcess.
