About Transkul

Transkul is a radioprogramme about unique informationcarriers. In 1989 resurrected as programme accompanying the international festival 'Europe against the current' (we had an interview with Vaclav Havel just after he was dismissed from prison...), the programme still explores the boundaries of informationcarriers that have been gathering dust with collectively programmed oblivion. We once started out with many presenters and information-critics, but now only two are left, helped out by some smart music-lovers.

What kind of informationcarriers have featured in Transkul?

We have had our own radioplay, written and performed by a journalist who was the sole reporter for the Netherlands for some time in Sarajevo, when things were very bad over there.

We have critically monitored new and/or independent journals, we have held interviews with environmentalists, politicians, popgroups, ex-prisoners, and seals.

We have organized theme-programmes which have been notorious (Eastern Europe, anti-semitism among anti-fascists).

We have been scolded upon by fellow-programme-makers because we played 'offensive' music, like Bob Dylan and Bluegrass.

We like to travel and come back with a tape full of radio-sounds from the country visited (the latest: street sounds from Aleppo), or sounds of the sea, or...

We have a strange preference to vinyl...

Last but not least, our last beginning-tune was: Joe Loss: 'Papa yo quiero', whereas we used to end with: The Housemartins: Reverend's Revenge.

From 10th of April 2001 the Nepper/Nepsterdisk of the week was brought to you under the auspices of the

Campaign for Real Soul

until 2003.

Transkul is made by Andre, Annabelle, and Bob van Wijk.
