A Brief History of the Band, It's Members, And Those Infamous After-Gid Taco Bell Runs!
Go Cart Started in the glorious days of High School , as the pit orchestra for the musical production of Grease. It was here that founding member and drummer Chris took efective control of the bands direction and writing. Along with Go Cart Originals, Guitarist Anthony , Keyboardist Danny and Bassist, Travis , they started an original rock outfit named Fountain Head. Playing infrequent gigs and practicing beyond all rational belief (8 to 9 hours a day two days a week) got the basic tightness and direction of the band set....But late in 1992 the band recieved heart breaking news. Founding member Chris recalls " we had just come off the stage at some fair we had playing and learned from anthony that there was another band in San Diego called fountain head we were heart broken (bites reflectivly into taco...inchoherant mummblings and spitting of taco here....) Through much soul searching and agony the band found a new name . Go Cart Mozart, Taken of course from the ever popular and controversial Manfred Mann hit "Blinded By The Light." When asked what the name really means founder and Guitarist, Anthony had this to say "uhh i think it means.....well.....so your a reporter?.......i hate music...." Chris's writing style had always leaned towards upbeat reggea and light 2tone ska with a twist of Oingo Boingo influenced tom foolery. But in early 1994 the band took a complete left turn in music and started concentrating on their unique brand of hornless Ska. After 2 years and 37 vocalists.." hey theyre cheap we buy them 10 for five bucks at price club" they met , auditioned and recruited vocalists Melanie Clarke. and Leslie Sanchez. Both woman showed incredible promise and dedication to Go Carts Musical buffonery and are still, after two years, looking forward to more gigs and recording. A seventh (the mystic number)member joined Go Cart in Mid 1997, Keyboardist and Public Relation extraordinare Tana Petruzzelli.
Today, the band is Melanie and Travis-less. Anthony has moved from guitar to bass and a new member, Raul Mendez, has taken over second trombone, adding a double horn sound to the Go Cart Mozart style! There will be (in the near future) a new, more up-to-date, band history...so come back soon!
The band sees a long and fruitful not to mention fun future ahead of them and hopes that the fan base grows and the crowds get bigger.
We leave you with a quote from the 1996 song Cannibal Love "with a song in my heart, and a spoon in my hand. I'll love you. I'll love you the best that i can."
