August: See record & tour news for updates. Other stuff: Gavin's scheduled to appear @ the MTV Video Awards. Spin.com is putting a video interview with Gavin online Sept. 10. And a new online zine Guitar.com has announced it'll run a "lifestyle" interview with Bush in an upcoming issue.

July 22: According to NYC's K-Rock, the 2 "public" Bush shows at Irving Plaza have been cancelled and Roseland Ballroom is the new venue; old tickets will be honored, new batches are on sale today, tadatadatada...this site also has pictures from when Gavin & Nigel did a radio interview there. New photos of Gwenvin and Nigel. Speaking of dicking around with names-the official Woodstock site features an interview with Nigel HALFORD of Bush! Teehee. Guess that reporter rolled in the acid mud bath last time round. You can read the nigel halford interview here. In other misc. news, Gavin, along with Mike Meyers, had a little airplane incident according to Allstar news-July 19. Apparently they were about to fly the LA to NY red-eye, when, in the words of Gavin:"We were just about to take off and the second engine blew...What freaked me out -- I guess it's the sign of the times --everyone gets on the bus and everyone gets on their mobile phones. There were a couple of women who were inconsolably panicked as well." Other news: there's a new Bush book out-shoddy MTV Access All Areas book. And there's a *rumour* that Bush will be touring with PLACEBO come September.

Soccer Six results: Bush won one, lost one, and tied one. They went to the semi-finals, but were eliminated 6-2. Photos should be going up on the site sometime-link below...somewhere...

June 2/ The MTV & Allstar sites had info on the Bush gigs-inc. good news for east coasters: "The much-rumored Bush club dates are finally confirmed. As a warm up for their Woodstock '99 performance in July, the band will play the Glass House in Pomona, Calif. on June 10, the Roxy in L.A. on June 11, and Irving Plaza in New York between July 12-13 (actually July 20-23). The Roxy show is part of radio trade publication Radio & Records' annual convention. The band's new album, The Science of Things, is due in the fall." Source: Allstar. The NYC shows are part of the Digital Club Fest which runs from July 20-23.

June 1: Bush are confrimed to play an all ages show @ the Glass House in Pomona, CA, June 10. Tix on sale to amBush members June 2 @ 9am Pacific time. First 40 ticket buyers get double passes to an LA area Music Industry show June 11. See ambush announcement for details. Call the amBush hotline at (415) 575-6675 (M-F 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to order tickets.

In the "they're-smiling-now-but-are-all-going-down-in-an-earthquake-one-day" category: a "special" announcement will be posted on the Ambush web site June 1: "Check back on Tuesday, June 1st at 12 noon Pacific Time for a special Bushy announcement of special interest to Bush fans in the Southern California area." My guess is it's a little club gig...

May whatever, 99: did you know: Sacha (from Gavin's old band Midnight) plays keyboards on the new album, as does Gavin and Nigel??? Mmmmh...? Or that "the mood is up-the mood is truthful. And not so selfish...well not too much". Influences? (Musical): "All music from before up till now-it's all in there and comes from past/present/future/nowhere: (Arts) "I tried to have good books/films/people around and all that so yes, it's fair to say yes-painters-acrobats + lovers...". Songs/singles?:" As always, a song will go to radio but I'm excited about most of it-maybe all-here's some I like alot-"The English Fire,""Altered States", "Letting The Cables Sleep", "Mint Changer"..." On having a concept/working with 16 Stone producers/the creative process: "Well, the nature of the band is to get everyone's input and take it somewhere without walls-in some ways good, some ways not bad and some like music. No concept-relying on instinct and a natural place to be. It seemed easy [to use those producers] and we knew them, it was logical. They bring the wine and cheese." Gavin answered a bunch of questions about the album in the last Ambush newsletter, which I/aka Zoo-Music Girl(don't ask) got a chance to contribute to. I'll put all my questions to/answers from, him up one day...maybe.

oops I just deleted all the '99 news-stupid girl...go see "record video news" for some updates. Short version:

RECORDS: the shit with Trauma's over-album's out in Sept., first single's likely "Jesus Online". Plus, June 15, Epic Records will release a benefit album for Kosovo refugees, called "No Boundaries", with Bush contributing track #7: "Come Down" (Acoustic version).

TOUR: They're doing a bunch of European gigs (fests and clubs-see "tour news"), including England's Glastonbury, June 25-sandwiched between Blondie & Hole on the Pyramid stage; REM closes the day. Also doing Germany's Hurricane Festival, which runs June 26th & 27th. Bush's only announced US gig is at Woodstock July 23-25 in Rome, NY. Tickets @ $150 went on sale in April. www.targetsport.com offers air travel packages & there's also tour packages starting @ $249, including express entry-exit from the grounds with luxury motorcoach transportation. In the US call 212-397-7474; Canadians can call 416-870-8000.

PUBLIC APPEARANCES: Gavin and his orange hair were on Politically Incorrect (In London), May 17-read the transcript here. Bush played a charity soccer match in London,May 23rd. See the Soccer Six web site for more. Quote about this in the May 15 Kerrang!: "It's good to be invited [to play at Soccer Six] to go and play and have a laugh. I'm sure everyone's going to be really competitive on the day though! I've never been to one of these things, but I can't believe that people are really that nice about it! All four of us are going to play - for at least two minutes each! We're not very professional, but it'll be fun to play on that grass!" Gavin then went on to talk about their comeback to the stage. "At Glastonbury [June 25] we'll be playing with guitars and drums. Which we do better. Sometimes!" More of this article's in the "record/video news" section.

Dec 31: Toronto magazine "Now" carried a short feature about the new Bush album on its online site. No point in giving the url cos they change weekly, but it was basically a rehashing of the info already out.

Dec. 17: An organization called "Rock For Life" has named Bush as one of the bands people should boycott because of their involvement with the pro-choice movement (their contribution to Christmas/96's Rock For Choice album, eg). Read more at myLAUNCH. This site also has an interactive Bush page, where you can vote for the band, an interview archive, plus links to info about Transvision Vamp & The Beautiful People (Dave & Robin's old bands, respectively) myLAUNCH Bush Page.

Dec 9: Thanks alot to Susan for the following article, taken from "Kerrang!" by an English friend: "Bush have just finished mixing their third album, 'The Science of Things', at London's West Side Studios. Co-Produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley (who worked on the band's 'Sixteen Stone' debut), the album is released by Interscope in March. It will include the tracks 'Dead Meat','Altered States', 'Ban The Bomb', 'Jesus Online', 'Warm Machine' and 'The Disease Of The Dancing Cats'."We've had fun f**king around with different ideas, but it still sounds like Bush," says frontman Gavin Rossdale. "There's a real breadth and variety on the record. We've got socially conscious songs, plus millenium lifestyle songs and my usual self-obsessed dissection of my own problems." The album title relates to the millenium and the advance of technology. "It has destroyed aspects of our life and culture," claims Rossdale. Bush were among the guests at a special exhibition at the Dr Martens store in London's Covent Garden on December 1. Held in support of World AIDS day, the exhibition featured Dr Martens boots decorated by some top bands, including Bush, Aerosmith, Placebo and the Beastie Boys."

Alternative Press ran an article this month about 'Science', incl. the quote: "It definitely is a rock record," Rossdale says, but he hints that some of London's future sounds could find their way into the final mixes." Read the full thing here.

There's a new interview disc coming out on the Master Tone label called "Star Profile: Bush". It'll feature a picture cd plus a 100 page book. This site's merchandise section lists some online record stores which may carry it.

A few radio station web sites picked up the "Science of Things" info, including Toronto's The Edge. According to Chicago's Q101: "Most of the recording was done at St. Catherine's Court, Jane Seymour's mansion in Bath, England, where Radiohead recorded "OK Computer" and The Cure has been working on a new album. Singer Gavin Rossdale says he keeps from getting bored by kicking around a half-deflated soccer ball outside the studio." Kansas City's The Ex ran the Rolling Stone story verbatim, but has a link to JamTV's Bush page, with real audio links etc, so is worth checking out.

November 17: According to MTV's news site, the next album will be called "The Science of Things" and will include the tracks "Ban The Bomb" and "Altered States". Awww, whatever happened to "Disease Of The Dancing Cats"? More (but not much more) in the "record/video news" section or @ the source: MTV. Also today, Rolling Stone carried similar info, with some extra tidbits about Gavin's "jetset" lifestyle and tour info (nothing new). Source:Rolling Stone

November 3: "Swallowed" was one of the winners at the annual BMI Awards, held in London. According to their web site: "The awards are given annually to the BMI songs from the UK Performing Right Society (PRS) repertoire that have received the most radio and television airplay in the United States." Swallowed won a related award at an event held in California earlier this year. Source BMI.com (Click "list of winners")

October 28: Allstar ran the following story about the rave film "Go": William Orbit was originally slated to collaborate with Gavin Rossdale from Bush for the soundtrack however, according to Bush's publicist, "It's not happening." However, a Sony spokesperson says that Orbit is one of the three artists confirmed for the soundtrack..." Source:AllStar

October 26: 16 Stone vinyl was re-released today. Check out Cdnow, Music Boulevard or any other fine online record store. Or wait a few months and check out the ebay link below.

Psssst! looking for Bush stuff, like limited edition promo posters? signed items? rare recordings? This isn't really news but check out the online auction site ebay anyway. Recent bargains included the Canadian Bush X 16 Stone for $3.00; a *rare* promotional cd/video package for about $6; a signed Pulse magazine cover for $25 & a signed Spin for $40; mint/sealed 16 Stone on Trauma (no Interscope logo on cover), for $9.99; the UK Machinehead numbered single for $5.99 as well as new, sealed copies of RBSC & 16 Stone going for around $4-$5, with used ones for a buck. A 'deconstructed' double vinyl LP was offered for $10, and a regular version for about $2, never played, but that one's not so rare.

October 14: Sonicnet reported that "Bush singer Gavin Rossdale and supermodel Kate Moss were seen bobbing their heads in appreciation" at the Hole/Cure Blind date gig at London's Kentish Town Forum, Oct 11th. Source Sonicnet

If you'd like to help out with the redesign of Bushnet (the official Bush web site), join the Strangeblaze mailing list. Bushnet's 23 Seconds mailing list is open again and is now available as an easier to swallow digest (burp).

Oct 5: Gavin will be one of the presenters at the European Music Awards (aka the MTV Europe Music Awards), held November 12 at the Filaforum in Milan, Italy. The show will be broadcast 8-10pmET Nov 13 on MTV (US). Check out Rock On TV for details. Canadians can catch it December 10th on MuchMusic. Gavin presented the Best Dance Video award with Natalie Imbruglia (it went to Prodigy).

Sept 12: Wondering what the new album art will be like? I ran into a friend today who was captured by Gavin - photographically, that is - and she tells me he's thinking of using some of his images for the cd cover's background. And on the subject of photos...sources tell me he's in the current Playgirl (Leonardo DiCaprio/celeb. issue).

The Gavin/Puff Daddy thing is off.

Sept 5: Hole discussed the "Gavin part" on the Celebrity Skin track "Awful" ("He's drunk, he tastes like candy, he's so beautiful")
Melissa: And the guy's breaking the little girls like you, at home listening...
Courtney: Oh that's the Gavin part, there's a little bit of Gavin
Interviewer: Yeah? There's a Gavin Rossdale part
Courtney: Yeah that's my little Gavin part (everyone laughs)

August 26: The BBC web site featured this as part of their Kerrang! Awards coverage: "Bush Named Best British Band The big award of the night went to Bush, presented by Gary Numan! Guitarist Dave was delighted: "I’m very very happy. Best British band, and why not! It’s great. We’re as British a band as any other, and today we won it! There’s so many bands, I’m not going to name them, the best this, the best that, but we’re ok. We write some good songs, we go and do a lot of stuff, we play a lot, we’re quite successful. We’re happy with what we’ve got and what we’ve done. The funny thing is we haven’t really played a live gig for a while - we’re making a new album, so we’ve been a bit out of the loop of music, so to come here tonight, and to win the award, is great!" Source: BBC

August 25: Yahoo UK carried the following news release today: "Rockers Honoured At Kerrang! Awards Rock group Bush lifted a top music award as music fans voted them Best British Band at the Kerrang! Awards 1998. The London-based quartet, whose fortunes have been greater in the US than in Britain, were recognised by readers of the specialist magazine at the annual event - rock music's equivalent of the Oscars." According to Q magazine (August issue), Gavin has a personal worth of $25 million, coming in 41st in the list of rich British rock stars. Bowie was #1 (by far) but that love cat from The Cure, Robert Smith, was the most generous with charitable donations.

'Mouth' from American Werewolf In Paris was nominated for 'Best Song in a Movie' at the 7th annual MTV Movie Awards (announced April 14). It lost to MIB. Competition included "Deadweight" (Beck), A Life Less Ordinary; "A Song For Mama" (Boyz II Men),Soul Food; "My Heart Will Go On" (Celine Dion)Titanic & "Men In Black" (Will Smith), MIB. The show was taped May 30 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA, and aired June 4, 9pm (EST). Voting ran APRIL 16-MAY 15 thru MTV online, via phone (1-900-420-2222) and at US Blockbuster stores.

23 April: (now defunct) British magazine Vox (June issue) reports that Hole's new album will feature lyrical references to Gavin, including the line "he's drunk, he tastes like candy" in the song "Awful" (click for full lyrics). Wonder if Billy Corgan co-wrote that one? (maybe not). According to Ms. Love "Gavin Rossdale is a sweet boy -- and he's also the only boy in America who still flirts with me! Don't f*ing laugh at me! He's like the most wonderfully sweet ponce of all time" (a ponce?! tsk tsk Courtney). News source: Vox & MTV Online news

DVDA, a band comprised of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have also been inspired-sorta-to write about Gavin, namely a charming little ditty entitled "F**k That Guy From Bush". Along with Reel Big Fish's Matt Wong, they performed the "tribute" March 30, onstage during the BASEketball film wrap party at St Mark's, a Venice, California club. Source: Allstar.

In the "how to get more traffic to our site" dept, Rolling Stone Onlineran a Bush vs. Aerosmith poll (the latter "won"). In other fan voting news, deconstructed came 11th in Circus magazine's fave album poll (May issue).

April 15th's poop du jour is c/o Robert Plant (talking about working at Abbey Road with Steve Albini): "Get real; the guy's a recording engineer who does good self-promotion. He's a real force, but 'guru of the alternative cutting edge'? I mean, Bush aren't alternative cutting edge, are they? He's really good at his ability to place microphones—that's the most important thing." Source: Wall of Sound.

The Philip Steir mix of 'Synapse' features prominently in an upcoming MuchMusic feature on racism. This is already on a couple of b-sides ( Swedish and Australian imports) but wouldn't it make a wicked a-side?

April 1/98: Just in time for April Fools day, rumours are flying that Bush will be the suprise guest at an Austin, Texas fest April 18th. A similar story is also going around that they'll be back in Toronto in a couple of months. Neither are true. To whoever started these: go get some fresh air.

March 16/98: Nigel has been spending time with his sister Jan at her 'English Valley' studio in Nashville, working on a tribute to jazz musician Charles Mingus. Overseeing the project is Mingus' daughter Keki. "They made a Mingus tribute album [on Sony] a couple of years ago that was very intellectual jazz," says Nigel, "we want to show that Mingus is more about joy, regular dancing and fun." Cyndi Lauper & Chaka Khan are amongst those lined up to contribute tracks; David Bowie and Sarah McLachlan have also expressed interest. Nigel's been laying down guitar riffs on several #'s, incl. "Pithecanthropus Erectus" and "Passions of a Man". The album is tentatively scheduled for a Christmas release, on Atlantic Records, with all profits going to the Let The Children Hear Music Foundation. News sources:Mme LaPulse Web Site; Rolling Stone.

Nigel performed with Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale at the 6th annual Tibet House Benefit concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC March 9. They played the Cale pieces "Gun" and "Cable Hogue" & were joined by Jerry Harrison (ex-Talking Heads keyboardist), Phillip Glass and members of Live for the song "Pablo Picasso," a punk classic Cale produced for the Modern Lovers in '76. News sources: allstar & JamTV. Nigel and wife Judith later made it to an apres-show party at the Waldorf Astoria.

'Swallowed' was up for a Best Hard Rock PerformanceGrammy (broadcast on CBS Feb 25 from Radio City Music Hall, NYC). Competition incl. the Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN & Rage Against The Machine; Pumpkins won for "The End Is The Beginning Is The End". There is (or by now perhaps, was) a downloadable pre-award interview with Westwood 1 radio atwww.grammy.com. The whole band & their respective partners attended the pre-telecast awards then left to drown their sorrows at various parties. There's a couple of pix of grammy-night-gavin (one with Gwen Stefani & Courtney Love)here. The previous evening, Bush also made it to Trauma's party at The Shine Bar/Club and to Arista Records' party at the Plaza Hotel; check out Gavin, Gwen and Puff Daddy here:Arista-gav . Somewhere along the line, gavin got caught play-kissing a scantily clad Gwen look-alike called Richie Rich, from whom the polaroid evidence had to be bribed. Gosh. News sources:muzic.com & new york daily news.

Bush won The Favourite Alternative Artist award in the Jan 26 AMA's. They didn't attend.

As for Billboard's online poll -looks like RBSC came 5th for Best album of '97. Bush also cleaned up in 'Circus' magazine's readers' poll, winning most of the major categories. They also won a couple of spots on the Spin Online best/worst list.

For the first 4 months of the year, Gavin will reportedly be holed up in the Irish countryside communing with the romantic muse (and, according to JamTV, Gwen Stefani). See the world news page for abit more info, or visitBush-The Distant Voices Site which is, as far as I know, the only Irish Bush site. Dave had reportedly been hanging out in Paris & Australia, Robin in the South of France & Nigel in Nashville (see 'latest info' above).

Nudesflash: Bush (who else?) were interviewed in the Jan. issue of Penthouse; read it here.
