MM Video AwardsSept 18, Bush won the Viewers' Choice Award for Best International Group which Gavin accepted with the words: "hey hey hey hey, thank you thank you, whatever, have a good time, you know, we won, yeah, good, awards, hello out there-hey!". They performed Swallowed and earlier in the evening, Gavin presented the award for Best Video Director. Prior to the show, he also stopped by 102.1 The Edge's studio for the Live in Toronto show; (this station -amongst others-recently held a contest to see Bush live in Holland). The band kindly let me tag along with them for several hours (in their 4th floor MM green room (a non-descript board room with tv, vcr and beer cooler), backstage, at the hotel & Left Bank nightclub). An account of this may appear in an upcoming issue of the fan club's newsletter but let's just say it was a mind-altering experience and the best/worst bits had to be left out. Aaaaaaah...

CRIA, which monitors Canadian record sales, confirmed that as of Nov/97, Sixteen Stone sales are at 600,000 units and RBSC are at 500,000 units. (Thanks to Phil for this info.)

RBSC was #2 on The Edge's (Toronto) Countdown of 102 Cds of '97; Oasis was #1 (thanks alot to Erin for the info). RBSC was #34 & Sixteen Stone #16 on the station's top 102 albums of the '90s.

The Edge's lead news story Oct 23 was based on a quote from Gavin that he plans on another couple of Bush albums before moving into solo work. This was taken from UK mag The Melody Maker's interview with him in Thailand; see thenews of the world section for more.

Sept 17, a Bush Interview CD (Cdn.) was released featuring July/Nov 96 interviews at a Toronto radio station.

Bonedriven was shown on MM the week of Sept 8th., having premiered on MTV-UK a few weeks earlier.

The video for Personal Holloway, shot in Dublin Spring/97, premiered on MM around June 20, and in the US on Rage TV. No N.American single was released.

Cold Contagious competed against the Backstreet Boys on the May 25 Combat and lost by about 3000 votes, finishing with 14,525.

Bush's single Cold Contagious was released (in the US) April 22. The video, directed by Marc LeBon with treatment by Gavin, premiered on MM May 1.

As of Spring/97, Bush had sold more than a million records in Canada, their highest selling market on a per capita basis in the world.

In April/97, Bush became Bush in Canada. Thanks to an agreement reached, sans lawyers, between the band and original (Canadian) Bush member Domenic Troiano, Bush could legally drop that pesky, not to mention expensive, little 'x' and go by the name they're known by the world over. The official announcement was made at a press conference given before their Toronto show April 17th. 1997. To mark the name change, Bush donated $20,000 to the Starlight Foundation and another $20,000 to the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund. A percentage of the proceeds from their July 10 Toronto show were also donated to charity. Outside Canada & wondering whether you should invest big $ in "bush x" cds? Unless it's the collectible cdn version of 16 stone with extra tracks, "bush x" recordings are not exactly rare, so...? click hereto learn all about x-ing the bush - and how they got rid of it (includes pix and lots more Bush stuff).

The second single from Razorblade Suitcase, Greedy Fly, steadily climbed the Canadian charts (#5/March 17th) and the video was Much Music's "Choice Cut" for the 1st week of Feb/97.

The Swallowed video was finally defeated on MM's "Combat des Clip" show. It had been voted favourite video for 10(?) consecutive weeks, but eventually lost(with over 3000 votes) to Silverchair. The Greedy Fly video went up against that band again in the March 9th. Combat and lost with 9641 votes.

For a limited time, the RBSC CD-ROM was available free at Sam the Record Man, with the purchase of a Bush album or Much Music's Big Shiny Tunes Compilation. "Fans" now command as much as $100 for one.

Submissions wanted for The Bush Telegraph, amBUSH's newsletter, which has a Canada Column (sometimes). The fan club invites Canadians to join thru its US office; click their banner for info.
