(Mutantes' Planet)

Non-official site of the most revolutionary brazilian rock'n'roll band

Members of Tropicália, Brazil's last major musical movement, Os Mutantes weren't only sideckics of Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Neiher just "Rita Lee's former band". Os Mutantes were probably the most important and influent Brazilian rock band. The first one to use rock as a base to achieve more sofisticated goals; the first one to mix pop and rock music with brazilian popular music, following the way opened by the writers Oswald and Mário de Andrade, leaders of Modernismo, the 20's decade revolutionary literature style. All this and tons of humour and gibe, resulting in package that deeply bothered the most conservative parts of Brazilian society.

Although almost two decades have passed since the band ended, the importance of Mutantes' work can still be sensed in Brazilian popular music. Brasilian musicians of many different tendecies did cover some of the band's songs. Foreign musicians , such as Kurt Cobain (who bought the complete collection of the band, during the period of time he spent in Brazil for a rock festival) had also expressed their admiration for Mutantes' work in several ocasions. However, a whole generation of brazilians who grew up listening to the bands that appeared in the national boom of rock in the 80's doesn't know much about this pioneers. This site is trying to do it's part in spreading the Mutantes' music to the world. Long live to rock'n'roll. Long live to the music of the Mutantes.
