A different sort of music, Jars Of Clay can be classified under "Christian Music" or as some people put it, "Christian Rock". I believe it's not just music... but what is. I prefer to refer to it as, "Christian Rock." Not only do they have a wonderful style of guitar playing and music, they have made the well known Christian Music become more popular in many cases.
Their debut album, Jars Of Clay, has had over a million copies sold and contains many chart-toppings singles. Singles like: "Flood", "Lovesong For A Savior", and was even nominated for the Best Rock Gospel Album Grammy.
Jars Of Clay began in 1992, when Charlie Lowell and Dan Haseltine met at a college named Greenville College, in Illinois. Steve Mason joined these two about a year later and then Matt Odmark became the band's final member to come. While making a demo, they took the Gospel Music Association Spotlight Award in 1994. They won out over 200 other acts as the best unsigned bands on the scene.
"Winning at GMA was really the beginning of everything. After we won, people started approaching us and we started getting a lot of positive feedback," says Lowell.
"We want to offer an alternative to everything else that's out there," states Odmark," Somthing that's different and interesting musically with artistic integrity, that sends a true message about who we are as humans, and who God is, and paints an accurate picture of that relationship."
These guys aren't scared at all to show who they are and their feelings towards things. Especially what they feel and loe for God and Jesus. Almost every song of theirs has something to do with God, Jesus, He, or Him and it has a lot of meaning in what they sing. It's not really just music, maybe it's something different, but I know it's not just and shouldn't be classified as just music.
