You guys have been hitting us with SO many letters telling us either how cool Hanson are or how much they suck! So here it is, by popular demand, the TV HITS Great Hanson Debate! Do Hanson suck or do they rule…
1. Can Hanson write a better song than MMMBop?
Phil Burton (Human Nature): YES – I think songwriters can only keep getting better, so I’d say eventually they’ll come up with something.
Hanson fan: YES – Of course they can! Anyone that talented can write something better than a world wide number one!
Ugly Phil (Radio DJ): YES – Because there are still another 25 words in the alphabet.
Hanson hater: NO – I don’t think Hanson could write a better song. MMMBop is the only song Hanson wrote with a good tune…but the words suck.
2. Does the world need another Hanson record?
Phil Burton: NO – Maybe a lot of people would like another Hanson record, but the world is a pretty big place and I’m sure they don’t need one in order to carry on!
Hanson fan: YES – Because us Hanson fans are devoted! Plus, you can’t have enough Hanson.
Ugly Phil: YES – Because we don’t need another Green Day record.
Hanson hater: NO – No way! I think everyone’s had enough of Hanson.
3. Are you hanging out for the next Hanson single?
Phil Burton: NO – Personally, I’m not very into them.
Hanson fan: YES – Of course. What Hanson fan is not!?
Ugly Phil: YES – Because Green Day suck!
Hanson hater: NO – I’m sick of ‘em and I think they can’t sing. Who’d want to listen to guys who look like girls?
4. Would Hanson be more popular if they’d released an album of all new songs instead of ‘Live From Albertane’?
Phil Burton: NO – I think Hanson fans mostly like Hanson for their looks rather than their music, so why would they bother releasing stuff people hadn’t heard until their fans cared how they sound?
Hanson fan: NO – Because we all love the music no matter what they release.
Ugly Phil: YES – What the world needs now is love sweet love…Whoops! Got a bit lost there. Um, yes, because we need more new material – not more screaming!
Hanson hater: NO – I think nothing would make Hanson popular.
5. If Ike, Tay and Zac get less cute as they get older, will people still love them?
Phil Burton: YES AND NO – It depends on what people love them for…their hair or their music.
Hanson fan: YES – If you’re a true Hanson fan you will love them for the music more than their looks. Not the other way around.
Ugly Phil: YES – I own the name ‘Ugly’!
Hanson hater: NO – I think the only reason people liked them was because of their looks, but I think they’re ugly.
6. Should Hanson cut their hair to improve their street cred?
Phil Burton: NO – They’re only teenagers – I don’t think anything could help their street cred right now (except maybe a drug possession charge!)
Hanson fan: NO – Because that is how we know Hanson…long, blond hair.
Ugly Phil: NO – There’s only room in this world for one bald dude! (Two if you count Micael Stipe).
Hanson hater: YES – Rumours would stop about them being gay.
7. For two years, Hanson were everywhere…radios, magazines and TV. Did people get bored of them as a result?
Phil Burton: YES – They’ll have to be very wary of the overkill factor.
Hanson fan: YES – I think so, but once you are hooked on a band it stays.
Ugly Phil: YES AND NO – Yes if you hated them, no if you didn’t.
Hanson hater: YES – There was too much Hanson.
8. Is it still cool to like Hanson?
Phil Burton: NEITHER! – Liking a band should never be a matter of cuteness. Peer pressure should never be an issue.
Hanson fan: YES – With girls, yes! But the guys, no. I know my boyfriend hates Hanson, but that’s his choice. I still love him, but it’s very cool to love Hanson.
Ugly Phil: YES AND NO – Yes if you like them, no if you hate them.
Hanson hater: NO – Hanson are real geeks!
9. Who are Hanson’s biggest competitors for the pop throne?
Phil Burton: 1. Tony Bennett 2. B*witched (Unfortunately!) 3.Aaron Carter (yeah, right!)
Hanson fan: More likely the Backstreet Boys or 5IVE. I would have said the Spice Girls, but with Geri gone…no way.
Ugly Phil: Metallica
Hanson hater: 5IVE and Backstreet Boys.
10. Should Hanson quit while they’re ahead or should they keep shaking their tailfeathers?
Phil Burton: CARRY ON – I think they’re very talented but it’s about time they bought out something new. (Sorry boys, Blues Brothers covers just don’t cut it!)
Hanson fan: CARRY ON – You can’t let people get you down. You keep fighting and playing music.
Ugly Phil: QUIT- Smoking’s bad for you!
Hanson hater: QUIT – Not many people like their music.
11. Do Hanson suck or do they rule?
Phil Burton: HANSON RULE! – I’m not really into their music, but I do have a lot of respect for them – they’re very talented.
Hanson fan: HANSON RULE! – Because they have the courage to keep going no matter what people say about them.
Ugly Phil: HANSON RULE! – When you hear the new Zac/Ugly rap song – you’ll know!
Hanson hater: HANSON SUCK! – Nobody likes them and we’re just plain sick of ‘em.
The TV HITS Verdict: You guys are a fickly bunch! A year ago you worshipped at their alter, but now the knifes are out! We reakon Ike, Tay and Zac are three of the most talented musos around, so be careful what you say – or you might be eating your words when you hear their new album! Ahh – Rock and Roll!!!
MY OPINIONS
1. Yeah, I think Hanson have a few surprises waiting for us!! As usual, there is that stupid misconception that the words of MMMBop suck…they don’t. Anyone who says that obviously doesn’t even know what the lyrics are, because they do hold a meaning.
2. Well duh!! Of course we need another Hanson album!! Heh heh, Ugly Phil hates Green Day soooo much!! It’s so funny. Apparently they were really rude when he met them, so he bags them all the time now.
3. Yeah, I can’t wait for the new single. Um…Hanson CAN sing. And I’m not even going to speak about the second comment. I thought looks weren’t supposed to matter...or so we keep being told.
4. This is a bit of a twisted question. Hanson didn’t ‘make a decision’ to make a live album instead of a studio one. They just happened to be on tour and decided to record it for their fans. If Live From Albertane hadn’t come out, nothing would have. It was a choice of screaming, or nothing…I’d take the screaming!! (new material wasn’t even an option). Phil Burton was SO harsh on Hanson fans. We DO care how Hanson sound, and he has no right to generalise us like that.
5. Most Hanson fans care too much about the Hanson music to let it go because of looks. It’s a mistaken belief that us fans only like Hanson for what they look like. Everyone should have realised by now that Hanson could not have gathered such a die hard fan base without fantastic music to back them up.
6. Hanson should only cut their hair if they want to, and if it is for the right reasons. They shouldn’t cut it to improve their credibility. That’s basically peer pressure, and I’m sure Hanson will not succumb to that. Again, Phil Burton was harsh in saying their credibility in so low nothing can help except a drug possession charge. Ok, so THAT’S what makes people ‘cool’ huh? Taking drugs? No, sorry. That's a load of ****.
7. It is incorrect for Hanson to be blamed for overkill. Yes, there was a lot of Hanson stuff going around, but that was only there for one reason…people wanted it. Hanson selled…and the media love to make the most of situations like that. So if people insist on blaming someone…blame the fans. I guess Hanson was just too popular for some people to handle!!
8. Hmm, I actually agree with Phil Burton here!! It’s not always easy to be a Hanson fan…you can get a lot of ditching for it. And that’s what makes us Hanson fans so strong.
9. Um…I don’t know!! Probably 5IVE, they’re pretty big at the moment. Or Britney Spears (I love her!!)
10. HELLO? As if Hanson are going to say ‘oh, we might not stay popular for much longer, maybe we should stop making music’. Hanson are going to continue making music always, it’s just a matter of whether people buy it or not. Hanson will never quit. And excuse me...I love their Blues Brothers covers!! They rock!!
11. Hanson rules, what else can I say to this question!? The Zac/Ugly rap song thing is an ongoing joke between Zac and Ugly Phil, and it’s really funny. As for the Hanson Hater’s comment that ‘nobody likes them’…um…in your dreams.
