Middle Of Nowhere
1997
Thinking of You:
I still remember hearing the first few notes of this song for the first time. The first notes of Middle Of Nowhere. I grew to love this song’s energy, and I love the way it sort of ‘leads into’ MMMBop. For I while I almost counted those two songs as one. Thinking Of You has a good chorus, and one of my favourite parts is Taylor’s keyboard bridge bit.
MMMBop:
Wooaaahh…how do I start? This is one of the best songs Hanson have ever written. You only had to listen to it once, and you were hooked. It was #1 all over the world, and provided Hanson with their jump into worldwide fame. The chorus is the most catchy piece of music I’ve ever heard, and the verses are gorgeous. As well as that, there are great lyrics supporting the song, which practically perfects it. This song will always be special somehow.
Weird:
This song contains some of my favourite Hanson lyrics. The second verse is my favourite (Isn’t it hard standing in the rain etc etc). This is a song which took quite a while to grow on me, but eventually it did in a big way, and it’s charmed me ever since.
Speechless:
This is one of the tracks I usually skip. It’s a pretty cool song, but just never did anything for me. I liked it at first, but got sick of it. I think it’s because the lyrics don’t seem to hit home anywhere.
Where’s the Love:
This is the next best song after MMMBop. It’s really really high energy and I go spastic every time I get to track # 5. Reeeallly good jumping song!! This is a song which has the gift of being able to hold its energy throughout. The ad-lib part near the end is really fun to sing along to once you get to know it well.
Yearbook :
This song has really successfully achieved the mysteriousness it was probably aimed for. If you play it in the right settings it can be quite eery!! I looove the harmonies Hanson used in this song, they’re really fun to sing along with. It’s not one of my favourites on the album, but I still enjoy listening to it.
Look at You:
This is another song I skip. Sorry!! But there is only two, and that’s pretty good for an album I listened to 24 hours a day, for a while. It’s really repetitive, which shortens its interest span, and the lyrics don’t really contain much.
Lucy:
Ooh, really really cute song!! This is so sweet, really. Zac sings it gorgeously, and I love listening to it just for the pure innocent delight of it.
I Will Come to You:
I was doing a little homework as I listened to MON for the first time, and after the first line of this song I dropped my pen and stared at the speakers in awe. That’s the impact I Will Come To You can have on people. This song is simply gorgeous, and I know many people who aren’t really fans but just like this song. This song has always been special somehow.
A Minute Without you:
Oh, I LOVE to sing along to this song. It’s such a high energy song, just listening to it is exhausting!! The lyrics are really cool. They work really well together, which makes it satisfying to sing and listen to. Awesome chorus.
Madeline:
This was my favourite song for a while. I think it should have a longer bridge or another verse or something, because it gets a little repetitive near the end. But the first few verses are unreal, and I always sing (or yell) along with this song. I love it.
I’ll be With You in Your Dreams:
Very VERY moving. If this song is played in the right setting, when you’re in the right mood, it can make people cry. My favourite part is ‘I don’t want you to cry and weep. I want you to go on living your life.’ It’s sung really well. And the "woah ho’s" are really good.
Man From Milwaukee:
This is so Zac. I love it!! The harmonies are fun to sing along to, and so are the guitars (yes, you CAN sing along to guitars!!). Basically just leaves you grinning at the end of the album, and that’s always good!
