CHAPTER FOURTEEN
A bird called its dawn song to the early morning sun. A new day had begun. Shannon awoke slowly and calmly, the dappled sun shining gently in through the window. She felt herself back to back with something warm. Taylor. She flipped around, gazing over at him. Her heart was pounding up into her throat. His eyes were closed, and his chest rose and fell deeply. With a smile, she turned and leaped as quietly as she could to the ground, and rushed inside. The house appeared deserted. She glanced around for a moment, biting her lip so hard it hurt. She couldn’t hold it in any longer.
"I think I’m in love." She exclaimed softly to herself, and jumped around the room, releasing some of the energy of her growing passion. Where were Isaac and Zac when she needed them? Shannon froze still as the door opened as if on cue.
"Hey Shan!" Isaac said, and she jumped up and down in silent enthusiasm. He froze with mock horror. "Oh my gosh you slept with my brother!!"
Shannon grinned and laughed.
"Isaac!"
Isaac grabbed her hands, his amazingly warm deep brown eyes laughing.
"What is it?!" He exclaimed.
She told him of the rare affection Taylor had shown, and his eyes lit up. It was like a dream becoming real before him.
"Oh I knew it. I knew you guys would work out! It’s so exciting Shannon. I can’t believe it…oh it’s just so awesome."
Shannon just stood still, laughing at Isaac’s antics as he danced with her, his love for romance shining.
"Isaac what are you doing?" Another voice said.
Shannon and Isaac collapsed into laughter as they turned to see Zac in the doorway, yawning and unimpressed.
It was a very cheerful breakfast that morning in the Hanson household, with Shannon and Isaac’s good spirits spreading fast. Taylor was missing, of course. His family used to require his presence at such occasions, but he had been so stubborn that they had given up, making him feel even more isolated. Some time after the washing up was complete, he entered the house wordlessly. His cheeks were glowing, which was a change from his usual paleness. Shannon’s heart leapt at the sight of him. He seemed to be radiating with good looks, despite the lack of spark in his expression and personality.
"Hey Tay, do you want my leftover piece of toast?" Zac asked cheerfully.
"Whatever."
Isaac came bounding up suddenly, his eyes gleaming. He’d just been chatting with his parents.
"Shan, would you like to come surfing with us today??" He stated, smiling infectiously. Shannon’s eyes lit up. Surfing with Hanson?
"Omigosh, I’d love to! Are you sure that’s ok? I can’t surf!"
"Yes! Yes come!" Zac exclaimed. "We’ll teach you! We taught Lara last time we went and she’s really good now."
Isaac glanced over at Taylor to see his reaction. He was staring over in interest, but looked away as Isaac met his gaze. Isaac grinned inwardly. He loved matchmaking.

"Be careful!" Diana exclaimed. "Look after each other."
"And no detours please guys." Walker stated. "You know the rules. No stops, avoid crowds..."
"We know Dad." Zac smiled.
He worried so much about their safety. Diana moved to Isaac. Shannon could hear what she was saying.
"Honey, I want you to keep an eye on Tay for me ok?"
"Yeah sure. Don’t worry, he’ll be fine. Really." Isaac said softly.
"Ok." Her eyes wondered. "Shannon, sweetie, are you sure you’re up to this?"
Shannon smiled, wrapping a hand protectively over her stomach.
"Yeah, I think so. I’ve got all of them to look after me if I’m not." She said, gesturing at the Hanson boys.
"Well I think you’re very brave!" Diana laughed, touching her cheek. "Have fun honey."
"I will, thank you." Shannon smiled.
Hanson’s parents were so fantastic. No wonder they all turned out so well.
With some last instructions, everyone trooped into the car. Taylor took the window, and Shannon sat beside him. She sighed. All they had to do was pick up Lara, and they’d be on their way. This was going to be a great day.
