CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

Everything about him was so familiar. Every move. Every step. Every expression. Still she couldn’t believe it. Her heart began to pound. He slowed to a walk as he neared her. His face was desperate and his eyes ached with anxiety. She took a few steps forward.

"Tay?" She exclaimed.

"Uh huh." He whispered breathlessly, stopping a few metres before her, motionless.

Shannon stared at him in disbelief. He was soaked through, and shivered as the rain continued to beat down onto his exhausted figure. His blond hair was dark in the wet and fell heavily over his pink cheeks. The inconsolable longing and aching he was feeling was displayed blatantly in his despairing expression. His desperate blue eyes were choked with the shattering pain and yearning that was literally tearing him apart.

The emotion in Taylor’s general appearance cut Shannon straight to the heart. She took a few small steps towards him before running straight into his dazed arms. She held him as close as was possible as he shivered uncontrollably. She suddenly felt her love for him overtaking and enveloping her like an irrepressible drug. All the emotions she had locked away came flooding back. Her need for him was a screaming pain in her chest as her heart pounded with the ignored aching and longing which had built up deep inside her for so long. Her body was feverishly flooded with her secreted passion for him. She had no hope of holding it back any longer. The intensity of her emotions gripped her, forcing her to gasp for breath.

It was all so wrong. She was about to board a plane to the other side of the world…and she was falling hopelessly back in love with him. It was all so horribly wrong.

"I got your letter." Shannon whispered over his shoulder.

"I know." He answered, his voice pained.

The agony in his voice just made her want him more.

An official came and stood awkwardly beside them.

"Excuse me? The plane has boarded, I’m afraid you’ll have to leave." He informed apologetically, and headed back towards the plane.

Taylor desperately repressed tears. Shannon squeezed him tighter. She knew had to leave him now…because soon she physically wouldn’t be able to.

"Goodbye Tay." She whispered softly. She could hear the agony in her own voice now. All she wanted was to stay in his arms forever.

"No." Taylor almost choked in reply.

Shannon felt her heart crushing and shattering as she forced herself to pull away from his gentle arms. She was glad for the rain, because it meant he couldn’t see the tears streaming down her cheeks. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the letter from overseas she had received earlier along with Taylor’s letter, and reached it out to him.

"Here. It’s got an address. Write to me." She said softly, battling to stop her voice from shaking with emotion.

He took it.

"But it hasn’t even been opened." Taylor said softly.

The official was calling her again, and she began walking backwards, ever so slowly. Every step was agony.

"I don’t care." She cried, shaking her head.

She was drenched by the pouring rain. Her legs continued to take her away from him. She felt like she was leaving part of herself behind.

"Bye Tay." She cried gently.

"Goodbye." Taylor choked, his voice shattered.

He wrapped his arms around himself in the rain, silent tears rolling down his cheeks as she slowly moved further and further away from him.

Before she really began sobbing, Shannon turned and ran up the stairs of the plane, not allowing herself to look back. Taylor stood frozen out in the rain, unmoving, crushed, and heartbroken.

Lara, Isaac and Zac ran to his side.

"Tay come inside." Isaac said softly.

He wouldn’t move. He just stared at the plane looming in front of him. The plane that was going to take her away from him.

It was really over.

She was gone.

"What’s this?" Zac took the letter that Shannon had given from Taylor’s hand.

"Her address is in there. So I can write…" He spoke softly, his incessant tears salty on his trembling lips.

"It hasn’t been opened!" Zac exclaimed, and swiftly ripped the envelope to reveal the letter inside.

"Oh Zac, you’re getting it all wet." Isaac exclaimed, looking at his little brother.

Suddenly there was something wrong. Zac looked like he was choking. He began waving his arms around, his eyes wide and shocked, but nothing came out of his astonished mouth.

"Zac?" Isaac questioned in confusion.

"Oooohhhhhhh wooaahhh." He suddenly wailed, waving the letter around as if he was going into paralysis.

Taylor couldn’t pay attention to anything but the plane. The staircase was gone now, and the huge vehicle was starting to back away. He blinked, battling to see through the blur of inconsolable tears drowning his eyes. The further the plane moved, the louder his heart was screaming.

Lara grabbed Zac’s arm and held it still so she could read the words on the paper. Suddenly she began shrieking and pointing at the plane.

Isaac grabbed the letter off Zac.

"What? What is it?"

As Isaac read, he started having much the same reaction as the other two.

"Oooohh my gosh. Oh MY GOSH."

"TAYLOR." Zac suddenly shrieked.

He turned slowly, his expression drained and exhausted.

Zac grabbed the letter back off Isaac, who was still in the paralysis stage.

"To Shannon," He began reading in a rushed slur, "As much as we were looking forward to your visit, UNFORTUNATELY YOUR STAY WITH US IN GERMANY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO FINANCIAL ISSUES….BLAH BLAH BLAH…OH MY GOSH GET HER OFF THE PLANE GET HER OFF THE PLANE SHE’S OURS!!!!!"

Taylor’s eyes grew wide and his mouth dropped open in astonished disbelief. He grabbed the letter and read the rain smudged words with his own eyes.

"Oh God." He breathed.

"Lara, go and get Mrs Karvan and find a way to get Shan out. We’ve got to stall the plane!!" Isaac suddenly shouted.

"What!?" Zac shrieked as Lara raced back to the building.

Isaac had broken into a run and was sprinting towards the huge plane backing away from them. Zac let out a yelp and found himself following.

Taylor started to feel dizzy. He needed to sit down. His emotions were hurtling back and forth at such a rate that his exhausted mind was literally shutting down. The rain pounded down harder, and Taylor squeezed his fatigued eyes shut and pressed his hands to his forehead, desperately fighting back the sick feeling at the back of his throat. He could hear his lungs gasping and pushed his drenched hair out of his eyes with shaking hands. This was too much.
