CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
Isaac was up in an instant, ignoring the blood appearing down his grazed side, and staggered over to Zac. He was sprawled on the ground nearby, motionlessly. Blood leaked from the grazes on his hands and wrists.
"Zac, Zac are you ok?" He cried in panic.
He opened his eyes slowly.
"Ohhhh, now I know how a test dummy feels." He groaned, and closed his eyes again.
Isaac breathed a sigh of relief. He’d be fine. His relief lasted for only a second.
"Taylor, where’s Taylor?" He exclaimed, whirling around.
When Isaac’s eyes fell on his brother he felt like he was going to be sick. He staggered over and fell to his knees beside him, his hands shaking.
"ISAAC." Shannon screamed, her feet splashing through the swimming concrete.
She crashed to the ground beside Isaac, the water seeping through her clothes. Her entire chest froze as her eyes scanned over Taylor’s unmoving body. Blood streamed from a gash on his forehead, covering his face and dyeing his eyes a sickening scarlet. His bare hands and forearms were stripped of skin. There was blood everywhere.
Shannon swiftly fell into shock. Nausea filled her senses as she gasped and choked for breath. She was trembling all over. Her head span intensely, forcing her to close her eyes. Colours danced.
The rain was beating down on her, deafeningly. Her mind raced frantically through her memory, distant moments flashing before her in a frenzied blur. Rain. Tin roofs. His lilting laugh, and dazzling smile. His divine lips, and profound, compelling blue eyes. The beach hut. The storm. The kiss.
His passion.
Her desire.
Suddenly something hit her. Something stronger than the terror. She raised a hand to her chest, feeling her heart pounding. It was pounding for him. For him. She opened her eyes. They gleamed with tenacity, courage, and conviction through her horrified tears.
Shannon leaned out across Taylor’s body, staring intensely into his blood-spattered face.
"Taylor?!" She exclaimed, shaking his shoulders.
His head swung from side to side…sickeningly lifeless.
"Tay?! TAY?!" She kept yelling his name.
She reached up a hand to his mouth, and the other to his chest. Isaac let out a cry of panic, and Shannon glanced up at him. He’d turned deathly pale as she checked for his brother’s vital life signs.
"Ike…stay with me." She said softly, pausing to place a supportive hand on his shaking arm before turning back to his brother. Taylor’s heart thudded heavily beneath her touch, and she noticed his hot breath vaporising in the cold air.
"He’s fine Ike…he’s fine." She breathed in relief.
Shannon pulled a sleeve of her shirt over her hand and began wiping at the blood on Taylor’s face, calling his name over and over.
It was then that Zac came crawling over, shocked tears falling from his eyes at the sight of his brother. Shannon quickly noticed Zac’s distress, and pulled him close to her.
"Hey Zac…hey, he’s ok. He’ll be ok." She whispered.
Zac stayed close to her, gripping her steady arm with both hands as she washed away the blood from Taylor’s face with the aid of the incessantly pounding rain. The gash in his forehead that had knocked him out when his skull cracked the ground was bad, yet small, and was thankfully not going to need stitches.
But he was still totally unconscious. It had been over five minutes now. Tormenting thoughts of comas started bantering her mind. She couldn’t let that happen. Not to him. Not now.
Shannon leant over him anxiously.
"Come on Tay." She whispered, gazing at his lifeless expression.
She raised a hand and ran it softly over his cheek, her heart pounding with her irrepressible longing for him.
"Tay please."
She leant over him, and touched her lips to his. She kissed him long and deep, aching to feel his lifeless lips respond.
"Come on Tay please." She breathed.
Suddenly, he stirred, ever so faintly.
Shannon took a sharp breath, and drew away from him.
"Taylor?"
Nothing.
"Kiss him again." Isaac whispered.
Shannon closed her eyes and leant forward to touch her lips to his once again.
He took a sharp breath, his body shifting. Shannon startled a little, but for a different reason. His lips. Taylor’s divine lips were ever so gently kissing her back. In disbelief, Shannon let out a small cry, and pulled away, opening her eyes. He was staring straight back, the sparkle in his iridescent blue eyes masking their lethargy.
"Woah." He breathed, the corners of his mouth turning up ever so slightly.
Isaac and Zac leant over him in disbelief
"Tay, Tay, you’re ok, you’re ok…" They repeated over and over.
Taylor didn’t answer. He just stared up at Shannon, his eyes dancing, his mouth flashing a hint of that stunning smile, his fingertips intertwining gently with hers. Shannon gazed back down at him, her eyes glassy with the intensity of the passion cursing through her body.
"What were you doing?" She cried softly, running her hand down the side of his face. "You complete senseless idiot, you could have got yourself killed."
Taylor’s adoring eyes glistened with impassioned tears.
"I'm in love with you." He whispered.
Shannon stared at him in the driving rain, his face centimetres from hers, his arms around her, holding her as he’d so badly needed to for so long. His pale complexion flushed pink, and the raindrops danced on the dark eyelashes of his amazingly adoring blue eyes. Shannon leant forward and kissed him with adoration so inconceivable that only the heart stopping passion surging through Taylor’s lips could ever possibly compare. The rain drowned out the pandemonium sweeping around them. Their silver figures gleamed against the dark sky as their passion and desire danced on the breathy wind around them.
Time held no meaning.
Nothing mattered.
All they were aware of was each another….
…and the pouring rain.
