Sonnet F- Contradictions
March 22
Your hair is long but short and dark yet not,
Though not an angel's voice, angelic still,
The coldest days of winter make you hot
With places full and spaces yet to fill.
Your smiling face doth make you look so sad,
You laugh as if you were about to cry;
So sane a face, enough to drive one mad,
So low in height yet ninety times as high.
With skin so soft, it's hard to stay away
From someone who so light gives heavy thought;
Though honest man, I soon a robber stay
If you would let me steal what can't be bought.
_In all these contradictions, you will see
_The space that sees you in between is me.
Sonnet N- The Love You Make
March 26
In love, one wonders how to show it's worth
To win somebody's heart, what does one need?
When one has love to give upon this earth,
What does one do if love is to succeed?
If I should give you presents by the ton,
Some flowers, candied hearts, a diamond ring
Or take you in my arms and make us one,
I ask you, would it still mean anything?
I've looked so far below and high above
And found the one thing I believe is true:
The love you make comes not from making love,
It comes from loving someone who loves you.
_The only love that I believe is real
_Comes not from what you do, but what you feel.
Sonnet Z- Sometimes and Always
March 31
Sometimes I feel that life is really bad
Sometimes I feel that life is one big ball
Sometimes I feel so lonely, lost, and sad
Sometimes I feel it's not that bad at all.
Sometimes I think I'm ugly, small, and weak
Sometimes I think I'm handsome, tall, and wise
Sometimes I think I'm treated like a freak
Sometimes I think I'm great in someone's eyes.
Sometimes I say I'll never get to do
The things I've longed to do to please myself,
But if that was a fact and really true,
Then why sometimes do I say something else?
_No matter what I sometimes say I see,
_I'll always know there's hope for you and me.
PUBLICATION: Vortex, mid-June 1995, East High School
HISTORY: My serious venture into poetry began here, with
twenty-six sonnets (A through Z), all written within March of
1994. The poems were printed and stapled together to make a
semi-book called "Sonnets A through Z," which was well-recieved
by the several friends who got or read copies of it.
One copy was handed in as "extra credit" for my English class,
in which it got me an extra ten points on my marking period grade.
Most of the sonnets were written for, about, or around a girl
I had a crush on at the time. Though they didn't create the
desired romantic effect from her, we're still good buds to this
day.
