Before I get into the History of the SelzerS I must first tell you about the pre-SelzerS band Timmsie's First Time (or TFT). I also must tell you a little bit about the bands existence before TFT.
Timmsie's First Time started out as a 5 piece band called SOLD. The lineup consisted of Steve Zardonansky, Paul Regina, Matt Romano, Jeff Ashbock and Jesse Pointon. Eventually Paul couldn't make as many practices so they looked for a new singer, enter Ryan Gentles, the ringleader of the SelzerS. He began to pick up the vocal and guitar duties although he had no experience in either.
After a while the bond between Ryan and the rest of TFT was solid. They did many a gig, but all was not good. Ryan yearned to be in his own band where he could sing, Matt was behind him. The band soon broke up there last gig in the original lineup was the SHS talent show, on March 21, 1995 but in actuality Ryan had left a week earlier but played the gig anyway. After Ryan's departure TFT picked up Chris Conway to pick up where he left off, they wrote 2 more songs after that, played a few gigs but quickly fell apart. The last ever TFT show was May 26, 1995, at Enterprise Firehouse, also featuring Pussy Litter, Dod I Frysbox, Little Gimmick and Circle Sky.
While this was happening Ryan hooked up with a drummer and guitar
player from his elementary school, Sharon School, Ian Cartwright
(guitar) and Dan Hodgkinson (drums). They also played for a short
time with Adam Feinberg on bass. Once TFT split Ryan snatched
the pieces he needed to complete his ensemble. Those parts being
Matt, replacing Dan on drums and Jesse replacing Adam on bass.
They stuck with Ian.
The SelzerS began to play some gigs at parties around town, they
got there first big gig soon after, at The Spiral in New York.
Unfortunately, Jesse couldn't make it so they looked for another
bass player. They came up with Gary Zampini, Gary had a surfing
trip scheduled but he canceled to play the gig. He immediately
clicked with the rest of them. Jesse was unable to play many more
gigs and eventually Gary became the full time bass player. Matt
soon became unhappy with the SelzerS, he wished to do more funky/Phish
style music. He stayed with the band until they got a new drummer.
The drummer was Jeff Weber. Jeff was the drummer for Gary's other
band, Blue Logic and art-rock type band. And the SelzerS were
finally complete. The band went into the studio a few weeks later
and recorded The Superhero Demo which they used to get more gigs.
The End .and now there is more, a '99 update
Well, been a long time since this has been written and/or updated but here it goes. Since this was last written the Selzers have recorded and released two cd's (see the Discography). Also, drummer Jeff Weber has left the band and he has been replaced by none other than Matt Romano, the previous drummer. At the end of 99 (now) the Selzers have recently re-entered the studio to record their first full length cd. They are taking their time with this record and even hooked up with a great producer.
