500-Shake baby shake

Little atoms-Elvis Costello and the attractions

Doubtless more career resuscitating chart action for Lush, not least because they've taken the plunge and let sticksboy Chris Acland write a B-side. Titularly, if nothing else, 'Piledriver' signifies Ackers' anarcho-punk roots and will surely fan rumours that he's got an Oi side-project on the go. It's good, but hardly Infa Riot.
'500 (Shake Baby Shake)' is already the stuff of drawing room debate nationwide, seeing as: a) it's not about kneeing your ex-boyfriend in the groin, b) it is, in fact, about a car, and c) manarges to rhyme "alluring" with "Turin", a metrical feat so sensational that it's little wonder Elvis Costello has suddenly felt obliged to come out of the toilet and admit his love of Lush.
'Little Atoms' is the first of four weekly single cuts from his fine, rather undervalued current album 'All This Useless Beauty,' the third of which shall see Lush let loose on the title track. Next week: Bis cover Leonard Cohen, while Ocean Colour Scene get their 'heads' 'round' John Cage's notoriously 'quiet' '4 Minutes 53 Seconds.'
