Duran Duran by Waldo Jeffers

This book, titled Duran Duran, was written by Waldo Jeffers, (spiral bound paperback), copyright 1984 by Publications International Ltd. ISBN # 0-517-45862-4. My edition was published by Beekman House and distributed by Crown Publishers, Inc.

The Worldwide Phenomenon: Some nice quotes "..and they are, quite simply, unique. No one-- perhaps not even the Beatles--has captivated so many fans in so many places in so short a time."

Simon LeBon: born in the London suburb of Watford on October 27, 1958. His mother encouraged his show business ambitions and enrolled him in acting and music classes. He wrote the lyrics to "The Sound of Thunder" in celebration of being asked to join the band.

Nick Rhodes: Born June 8, 1962 as Nicholas James Bates. He enjoys recording. His favorite things at the time were: art, hapy people, strawberries, and his cat Sebastian. He also has an interest in photography. He is a self-taught musician.

Andy Taylor: Born February 16, 1961, in Cullercoats (Newcastle suburb). He has an ability to perform either rhythm or lead guitar. He is a perfectionist. He married Tracie Wilson in 1982.

Roger Taylor: Born in West Midlands, England, on April 26, 1960. It is the strength of Roger's drumming that supposedly caused John to switch to bass guitar in order to make rhythm the focal point of the music. He believes music should be entertaining and not political. His hobbies were watching tv, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones.

John Taylor: Born in Birmingham, England on June 20, 1960 as Nigel John Taylor. His three obsessions at the time were: partying, James Bond, and cars.

In the Beginning...: History of the band.

Duran Duran Live!: They use wireless microphones and FM pick-ups on their guitars. Their staging is state of the art. They had a large entourage during their 7 & The Ragged Tiger tour.

The Music: Talks about the band's debut album being deleted in the U.S. then re-released with "Is There Something I Should Know" and a shorter version of "Planet Earth". Simon claims they didn't do drugs or drink much on the road. Brief blurbs on their first three albums and the mini-album Carnival.

The Video Revolution: MTV, their grammy award winning video album and video 45 of Girls on Film. Brief blurbs on videos through "The Reflex".
