Inside Duran Duran
This book was written by Robyn Flans, copyright 1984. ISBN # 0-451-82096-7 (paperback).
Printed by A Sharon Starbook in the US.
Introduction has a Q & A format. Simon gives some rather hilarious answers.
Chapter 1: How the Music Began; band history up to that point, brief mention of MTV.
Chapter 2: John Taylor; on becoming a bass player, purchasing cars, and life's ambition of
dating a Charlie's Angel (lol).
Chapter 3: Nick Rhodes; on producing Kajagoogoo, keeping his feet on the ground, and making
a book of 'Abstract Polaroids'.
Chapter 4: Roger Taylor; on drumming, school bands, and being the quiet one of the band.
Chapter 5: Andy Taylor; on being the most experienced musician in the band, marriage (at the
time he was the only one), being a vegetarian, and owning a restaurant called Rio.
Chapter 6: Simon LeBon; on finding his way career-wise, punk rock band, his fascination
with 'girls', and one night stands.
Chapter 7: The American Invasion; on the working vacation in Sri Lanka and the trials of
making 3 beautiful videos there including the medias perception of them as jet-setters,
MTV breaking them in America, being in Antigua to film the Rio video, six months after its
release Rio exploded onto the charts, and MTV's second annual New Year's Eve concert 1982.
Chapter 8: 1983: The Work Continues; Awards, video cassette album, trials of recording at
Montserrat's Air Studios, Taking part in the Prince's Trust Rock gala and a benefit for
MENCAP (mental handicap charity).
Chapter 9: The Making of Seven and the Ragged Tiger; how complicated it was and they kept
changing the tracks around, how things come together--lyrics come last.
Chapter 10: 1983-1984 On Top of the World; About having a first album attitude with this
album, not being present to accept their two Grammy awards for Best video album (Duran
Duran) and best short video (Girls on Film/Hungry like the Wolf) because they were on a
world tour, being more powerful live as the guitar is more up front, and on not being a
synthesizer band.
