Promise

Chapter 1

~Gate 18. Gate 18. God, you would think with all times I've been here, I would know where I was going.~ Natalie Baxter thought to herself.
"Excuse me, do you know which way gate 18 is?" Natalie asked the lady at the desk.
"Go down this hallway, and it should be about 5 gates down." She answered.
"Thank you." Natalie jogged down to the gate, weaving in between people and their suitcases.
"Excuse me, did the flight from LA land yet?" She asked when she got to the desk.
"Yes, all of the passengers have gotten off. They should be heading toward the baggage claim." The woman answered.
"Oh, could you point me to where that is?"
"Head up the escalator and go down the hallway until you find the 18th one."
"Thank you so much." Natalie started off for the baggage claim.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
"Don't worry man, she always comes." AJ said.
"AJ's right. She shows up more than anyone else does. She was here for the '98 tour, the Millennium tour, and why would she not be here today?" Howie said.
"I know, but she always meets us by the gate." Kevin said looking around the crowd.
"Well, it is Wednesday, and she works. She must have been held up." Brian added.
"You're right."
"Look who I found." Nick said pointing to Natalie. She obviously saw them too, since she was running towards them.
"Hey baby." Kevin said picking her up. She wrapped her legs around his waist and they kissed.
"I missed you so much." Natalie said.
"I missed you too." They kissed again and Kevin put her down. AJ pretended to cough.
"Don't worry, I missed you too." Natalie said. She gave AJ and the other guys a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
"I'm back." Haley said while walking up to the group. Haley was Brian's girlfriend, and one of Natalie's best friends.
"Hi Haley, I missed you." Natalie said giving her a hug.
"I missed you too."
"So how was it with all of us gone?" Nick asked.
"Horrible, my friends that were here are so boring. You don't know how many Friday nights I spent with a Blockbuster movie and Chinese take-out. I'm so glad that my six best friends are back." Natalie said. After a few fans came over for autographs and pictures, they were off. While walking to the parking lot, they told Natalie everything that happened on the tour.
"And to top everything off, Nick's pants were falling off for the first four songs." Brian said, and everyone laughed.
"You poor thing." Natalie said.
"Don't feel sorry for him. When we got our wardrobe checked, he was firting with Elaine the entire time. So it's his own fault." AJ said. Nick, Howie, Brian and Haley all took a cab home, while Natalie drove Kevin and AJ home. Natalie lived about 5 minutes away from AJ. The two of them have been friends for a while. They met through a friend of theirs about 4 years ago.
"Oh, you know that promotion I was trying to get?" Natalie said while driving.
"Yeah." Kevin and AJ answered.
"I got it."
"That's great Nat." They both said.
"I know, now I'm the Director of Marketing."
"Well, I'll call you later, see ya." AJ said when he got out of the car.
"So, what do you want to do?" Kevin asked Natalie.
"Well, I was thinking that you could come over to my place and I could cook us a little something." She suggested.
"I'll have to think about that one. Go home and unpack or spend time with my girlfriend, who I haven't seen in three months."
"Should I turn around then?"
"What do you think?"
"I don't."
"And that's why I love you." Kevin kissed her neck.
"Hey, I'm driving here."
"And you're point?" He said kissing her again.
"I would like to stay on the road." She pulled into her driveway. Natalie made spaghetti and they talked all night, which was something they haven't done in a long time.
"I forgot to tell you, with my promotion I have to go to a conference in a week for five days."
"So you are telling me that I only have a week with you before leave." Kevin said holding Natalie closer.
"Basically."

Chapter 2

Natalie woke up to the faint sound of her alarm. When she looked at the clock, it was 7:30.
"I'm going to be late." She said, and jumped off the couch, where she and Kevin fell asleep, and ran for the shower. A half-hour later, when she was dressed and had her make-up on, Kevin got up.
"Morning baby." He said while Natalie was looking for her shoe.
"Morning." She replied.
"Looking for this?" Kevin was holding the shoe Natalie was looking for.
"Yes, thank you." She walked over to get it, but Kevin wouldn't give it to her.
"What do you say you show up to work late today, and we can spend a few more hours together?"
"I say no. I can't show up the first day of my new position late."
"Please." Kevin gave her a sad puppy look.
"No, and stop that. It's not going to work." Natalie walked back into her room to find her briefcase. While she was in there, Kevin got some coffee and a waffle for her.
"Thank you so much. I'll see you later, I promise." She said.
"Ok, come over to my place at six." Kevin replied.
"I'll be there. Bye." Natalie took her travel mug and waffle from him and walked out the door. Kevin just stood there, until she came back and kissed him.
~Later that Day~
"Nat, I mean, Ms. Baxter, you have a visitor." Rachel, Natalie's new secretary, said while peeking her head in the door. It was a little strange for the two of them to be working for each other since they have been good friends for a really good time.
"Can you just tell them I'm busy?" Natalie answered.
"Even too busy to see me?" The visitor said.
"I'm never too busy to see you. And I could take my lunch break now." Natalie gave AJ a hug.
"You're in luck, I just happen to have some McDonald's right here with me." He said holding up a bag.
"What is it?"
"Grilled chicken with a vanilla shake."
"You are the best. Thank you, and by the way, what are you doing here?" Natalie took the food from him.
"I was in the neighborhood, and decided to stop by."
"Um, ok." Natalie said taking a bite out of her sandwich.
"Ok I lied, I have to pick up Kevin at your place. Apparently he doesn't have a car."
"Oh yeah, I never thought about that."
"How's the new position?"
"Great, I love it. But I have a lot to do before next week."
"What's next week?"
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, I have to go to a conference for five days."
"Fun, Kevin must be excited."
"As excited as I am."
"So, I better go get him. I'll see you later."
"All right, and thanks again for the food. I owe you one."
"I know." AJ walked out of Natalie's office.

Chapter 3

Natalie went home to change before going over to Kevin's. She decided to wear pants since it was a cold 70 degrees out. I guess that's what happens when it's December in Florida.
"Kev, I'm here." She said after opening the door. Kevin snuck up behind her, and gently grabbed her sides, and she screamed. Kevin just laughed.
"Must you do that?"
"Yeah, actually I do." He said, pulling Natalie in for a kiss.
"So what are we doing tonight?"
"Well, I figured since you're going to be gone for our anniversary, I was thinking that we could have dinner on the beach and then maybe go for a walk at sunset."
"Oh my god, I totally forgot about being gone for our four-year anniversary. Now I feel really bad." Kevin took her hands and put them around his neck.
"Don't be, you can't help it that you have to go for work. So what do you say we go?"
"That sounds good." So they left for the beach.
~One Week Later~
"Now I don't want to go." Natalie said as she and Kevin were sitting in the airport.
"You have to, it's only five days." Kevin assured her.
"I know, but it's cold in Minnesota." Just then her flight was called for boarding.
"I'll miss you." Kevin said.
"I'll miss you too." Natalie gave him a kiss.
"Have fun ok?"
"I'll try. You would think with all the times we've done this, that it would be a lot easier."
"I know."
"I better go. I'll see you in five days, I promise." Natalie walked to the terminal, and while the lady took her ticket, she turned around and blew Kevin a kiss while mouthing, "I love you."
~Five Days Later~
~Wow, it's snowing, I haven't seen it do that in a while.~ Natalie thought to herself while looking out of the plane window while they were talking off.
"If you don't mind me asking, is that you with the Backstreet Boys?" The woman sitting next to Natalie on the plane asked after noticing the picture she was looking at. The woman looked like she was in her early 20's.
"Yes, I'm really close to all of them. Are you a fan of theirs?" Natalie answered.
"Actually I am. I know that sounds sad for a 23-year-old to like a boy band, but hey. Oh, by the way, my name is Heather."
"My name is Natalie."
"So how did you meet them?"
"Through a mutual friend. They are the nicest guys, and can you keep a secret?"
"Yeah."
"I'm going out with Kevin. In fact today is our four-year anniversary."
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Sorry I'm late guys." Nick said when he got to the studio.
"Did you guys hear about that plane crash in Minnesota?" Howie asked.
"No, what happened?" AJ asked.
"A freak blizzard hit and the plane went down in the forest some where. And since it's snowing so hard, they can't get the crash site."
"That would suck." Nick said. Just then Kevin's cell phone rang.
"Hello?" He said.
"Hi Kevin, this is Mrs. Baxter." The lady answered.
Hey Mrs. B, how are you?"
"I'm ok, but I have something to tell you."
"Ok, shoot."
"I would sit down for this."

Chapter 4

"Can you call me if you hear any thing?" Kevin asked.
"Absolutely. Are you going to be all right?" Mrs. Baxter asked.
"I'll be fine, thanks for letting me know. Bye."
"Ok, but if you need anything, give me a call, bye." Kevin put his phone on the table.
"Kev, man, are you ok?" AJ asked. Kevin had a spaced look on his face.
"No, you know that plane crash D was talking about?"
"Yeah."
"That was Natalie's flight."
"Oh my god, is she ok?" Brian asked.
"They don't know since they can't get to them."
"Are you going to be ok?" Howie asked.
"Yeah, let's just get this started." So the guys started recording.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Is any one alive out there?" A flight attendant asked.
"We are." Natalie said while trying to get up, and then she helped Heather get up also. Both of them limped toward the flight attendant. There was also a woman, man, and their fifteen-year-old son were also alive. Along with three other men.
"How long do you think it will be until help comes?" The woman asked. By now all of the survivors got out of the twisted wreck.
"It all depends on when the snow stops." The flight attendant answered. "And we don't know when that will be."
"The three of us will go and find some wood we can burn." One of the three men said.
"My son and I will go with." The married man said. So the five of them went off, while the women went back to the plane to see what they could salvage.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"All right, Kevin, you're up." The producer said, and Kevin got up and when in the booth. Everything was going smoothly until he had to sing, "You were all ways there, but now you're gone. What will I do with out you?"
"Kevin is everything all right in there?" The producer asked when he stopped singing.
"No, I can't do this right now." He walked out of the booth.
"Kevin, what's wrong?" Nick asked when he saw him getting his stuff.
"I just can't do this right now. All I can think about is Natalie and if she's all right. I don't think I should be doing this now."
"You should go home then." Brian said.
"I'll see you guys later." Kevin said heading for the door.
"If you hear anything, can you let us know?" AJ asked.
"Of course."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the men came back from looking for wood, the women showed them what they found. They had ten blankets; fifteen pillows; seven meals; a box full of peanuts; eight rolls of toilet paper; an emergency kit; a case of Sprite and everything that was in Heather's, Natalie's, and the boy' backpack, the other woman's purse, and the flight attendant's, Natalie's, Heather's and the woman's family's luggage. The three men went back and found their luggage also.
"Does anyone have a lighter?" The married man asked.
"Yeah, I do." Heather said opening her backpack. The married man had set up the wood for a fire and used the toilet paper as kindling. The toilet paper lit, but the wind blew it out before it got to the wood.
"We're going to need something to shield the wind." Man number one said. (He was part of the group of three men.) All of them thought for a second then Natalie thought of something.
"The life rafts, we could prop those up and create a make-shift shelter." She said.
"That's a great idea." Man number two said. So Natalie, Heather, and the flight attendant went back to the plane again to get the rafts and as many life jackets as they could. They held the rafts up by using large sticks that they found. They had the rafts lying the horizontally, and used the life jackets to plug any holes they found. Soon after, they had a fire going.
