Chapter 5 The nine survivors have been out in the woods for ten hours so far and the snow hasn't stopped. It hasn't been falling for ten straight hours, but it hasn't completely stopped yet. So far, only four cans of Sprite, nine bags of peanuts, and one roll of toilet paper have been used. "So, Natalie why were you going to Orlando?" The married woman, named Jan, asked. "I was going back home. I was at a meeting in St. Paul. What about every one else?" Natalie asked. "We were going on vacation." Aaron, the fifteen-year-old said. "I was going to visit my grandparents." Heather said. "We were going to visit family." Matt, one of the three men said. Everyone else continued to talk while Natalie went back in her bag, and pulled out the picture of her and the guys. And she started to cry. "Natalie, what's wrong?" Sara, the flight attendant, asked her quietly. "Today is my four-year-anniversary. I promised Kevin I would be back in time to be with him. But I'm not." She answered. "Oh, I'm sorry." Natalie just took her pillow, and blanket and tried to sleep. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin woke up to the sound of his phone ringing. "Hello?" He answered still half-awake. "Kevin, it's me Ann." Natalie's mom said. "Oh, have you heard anything." Kevin was more awake now. "Not about the accident, but the snow is expected to clear up in a few hours though." "That's great, so that means they'll find them soon." "Hopefully, they said that they'll just all of the plows they can to get to them. However, the rescue team might not get there until tonight." "Oh well thanks again for the update." "It's not a problem, if I hear anything else, I'll let you know. Good-bye." "Thank you, bye." Since he was up, Kevin turned on the TV. "Flight 445 has been down for twelve hours in the Minnesota woods. Due to the blizzard, rescue teams haven't been able to get to the crash site. Experts say the chance of survival is very slim." The news reporter said. After that report, Kevin turned off the TV. "Don't say that to me." He said out loud. "Nat's alive I know it. She has to be." He went downstairs and lay on the couch. "She promised that she was coming home soon. Natalie never breaks her promises." Kevin started crying. -------------------------------------------------------------- "Can I see that picture you were looking at before?" Sara asked Natalie. "Yeah." Natalie got the picture out of her bag. Right now, it was the two of them and Heather who were up. They kept the fire going while the guys slept. "It that you with the Backstreet Boys?" "Yeah, they're really good friends of mine. And that's my boyfriend." She pointed to Kevin. "You are so lucky. What are they like?" "Are you a fan too?" Heather asked. Sara nodded. "So am I." "Well, Nick and Brian are as funny as they seem, and usually funnier. AJ is also a riot. Howie is really down to earth. Kevin seems serious a lot of time, but that's only when it comes to work. Other than that, he can be just as funny as Brian. And all of them are the sweetest guys I have ever met. How about when we get out of here I'll introduce you to the guys." "Are you serious?" Heather asked shocked. "Yeah, since you are going to be down there, and they're going to be there, why not? Plus they'll love you guys." "Yeah, we're meeting the Backstreet Boys when we're out of here." Sara said doing a little dance. "So, are any of the guys single?" Heather asked. "AJ, Howie, and Nick are. Brian is dating this really nice girl, Haley. Why, are you two single?" Natalie asked. "Single and looking." "Same here." Sara said. "How sad are we? I mean, we were just victim of a horrible plane crash, and all we can think about is meeting a boy band." "Hey, we need something to take our minds off of everything." Natalie said. "True, very true." Heather said. Chapter 6 "Natalie, why do you have to be gone?" Kevin said while going through one of his photo albums. He's been looking at pictures for over an hour now. "We had such a good time that day." He found a picture of the first day that he and Natalie met. Natalie was lying down while all five of the guys held her up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Fellas, I want you to meet some good friends of mine." AJ said to Brian, Howie, Kevin and Nick. They were spending a day at AJ's grandparent’s house, which was on the beach. "This is Rachel, and Natalie." All of the guys said hi. But Kevin couldn't help staring at Natalie, she was just so beautiful. "Who want's to go swimming?" Rachel asked. "I'm up for it." Nick said. So they all headed for the beach. They spent the day in the water, just playing around. But when the sun was setting, they all took a walk down the beach. "I don't think I could ask for a better day." AJ said putting his arms over Rachel's and Natalie's shoulders. "A beautiful day, beautiful women, and of course the guys." "You never stop do you AJ?" Natalie asked. "Nope, and I plan on it either." Rachel and Natalie just laughed. "Look at this, there are only two girls on this whole stretch of beach, and AJ's hanging all over them." Brian said loud enough for AJ to hear. "Hey, what are you going to do if the ladies love me?" AJ said. Rachel and Natalie couldn't help but laugh. Natalie took AJ's arm off her shoulder and dropped back to talk with Kevin. She thought he was very cute, and he was a lot of fun in the water. So they started talking, and eventually they were ten feet away from the rest of the group. "Well look who decided to join us." AJ said while standing in front of the house. "Wait, before the sun goes down, I want to get a picture of all of you." Rachel said pulling out her camera. All six of them stood there with the beach to their backs smiling. "Ok, now do something fun." She said. So Kevin and Brian lifted Natalie up, and Nick, AJ and Howie all held her up too. "That one's a keeper." Rachel said. For the rest of the night, they all sat around a little beach fire drinking and talking, except for Nick, he didn't drink at all, since he was too young. AJ on the other hand "borrowed" a sip or two from Natalie and Rachel. "Well, we better get going." Natalie said. "It was really nice meeting you guys." Rachel said. She and Natalie gave all the guys hugs, and started walking towards Rachel's car. "Natalie wait up." Kevin said, running toward her. "I had a really great time today." "Me too." She said. Kevin gave her a kiss on the cheek, and handed her a piece of paper. "I'll see you around." He said. "Ok, bye." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Kevin was snapped back to earth by the ringing of his phone. "Hello?" "Hey man, how are you doing?" AJ asked. "I've been better." "Have you heard anything yet?" "Nat's mom called and said that the snow is supposed to stop, but the rescue team might not get there until tonight though." "Oh, so all we can do is wait." "That's all. AJ, why does this have to happen? Everything was going so good between us. Now Natalie's gone." Kevin started crying again. "Don't think like that. We don't know how Natalie is yet. You just have to wait and see, we'll know in a couple hours if she's alive or not." "Yeah, well, I'm just preparing myself for the worst." "Ok man, I've got to get going. Are you going to be ok by yourself?" "I'll be fine. See you later." "Bye." Kevin got off his couch, and grabbed a couple beers out of the fridge. -------------------------------------------------------------------- "Guess what?" Aaron asked when he got back into the shelter. "What?" Jan said. "The snow stopped. That means help should be here soon." Everyone was happy by that news. "Do you think we should put out some flares or something in case a helicopter comes by?" Matt asked. "That's a good idea, how many do we have?" John, the married man, asked. "Three." Sara said. "Three isn't going to get the attention of a helicopter, we might need something bigger." Heather said. "If we find more wood, we can start a huge bonfire." Alex, another one of the guys, suggested. "Ok, let's do that." John said. So again the men got dressed in as many layers as they could, and got wood. After about six hours of waiting the rescue team finally arrived. "Man, are we glad to see you." Alex said to their rescuers. All of them were rushed to a near-by hospital. Chapter 7 "Hello?" AJ's phone rang at about 2:30 in the morning waking him up. "I'm sorry to wake you up this early AJ, but I have some good news." It was Mrs. Baxter, "Natalie's alive." "She is, that's great." AJ was wide-awake now. "When did you find out?" "Maybe an hour ago. There were only nine survivors." "This is great, have you told Kevin?" "No, I tried calling, but I kept getting a busy signal." "He must have taken his phone off the hook. So when is she coming home?" "We don't know yet, we haven't heard from the hospital. I'm hoping within the next few days though." "Thank you so much for calling. Could you let me know when she's coming home?" "Absolutely. Bye." "Bye." AJ was able to sleep easier that night knowing that Natalie is all right. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Nurse, what room is Heather and Sara in?" Natalie asked. She was now in the hospital, apparently she broke her foot, her collarbone, and three ribs. She found it funny that she couldn't feel any pain while they were out in the forest. "They're just one room over." She answered. "Where is everyone else?" "Well, the three brothers are down the hall, the father and son are across the hall, and their mother is right over there." The nurse pointed at the divider. "Thank you." Once the nurse left, Natalie asked Jan how she was. "I'm ok, but the pain is starting to kick in." "I know, isn't it funny how everything hurts now, but it didn't out there." "Hey look we're on TV." Jan turned it up. "Defeating all odds, a group of nine survived the horrible crash of flight 445. If a crash wasn't enough, the survivors spent nearly 24 hours in the bitter cold. They survived off of what they could find from the crash site." The reporter said. "Now that's an amazing story." Another reporter said. "We're famous." Natalie said. She and Jan both fell asleep again for about three hours, and then, they were able to visit the others. "Hey guys." Natalie said as a nurse wheeled her into Sara's and Heather's room. "Hi, Nat." Heather said. "How are you feeling?" "Ok, but my leg hurts so much. Apparently I had a bone sticking out of my leg the entire time." "That's nasty. How about you Sara?" "Ok, luckily I didn't get too hurt. Did you see us on the news?" She answered. "Yeah, we looked good didn't we?" "Oh yeah." Heather said, "Do you know when we get to leave?" "Tomorrow, the doctors want to keep us one more night for watching." "I can't wait to get home." Sara said. "Neither can I." Heather added. "Same here." --------------------------------------------------------------- "Hi Mr. Baxter, hi Mrs. Baxter." AJ said when he saw them at the airport. "Hello AJ, how are you?" Mrs. Baxter said giving him a hug. "I'm great, how about you?" "We're just excited to see Natalie. I hope her flight lands soon." "Me too." -------------------------------------------- "Do I look ok?" Heather asked as she, Natalie, Sara, and the rest of the survivors got ready to get off the plane. "You look fine, why are you so worried about your appearance?" Sara asked all ready knowing the answer. "Humm... I don't know." She said smiling. "Don't get your hopes up just yet, I don't know if they're going to be here. I didn't get a chance to talk to Kevin, his line was busy." "Well, here we go." Sara said, they walked out of the terminal. There was a crowd of reporters, by-standers, and their families. "Mom, Dad, I missed you so much." Natalie said giving her parents a hug. Her mom started crying. "Mom, don't start that, I'm home." She gave her mom another hug. Just then she noticed AJ standing there. "AJ, I've never been so happy to see you." She gave him hug. "It's good to see you." AJ looked down and saw her foot. "Is it broken?" "Yeah, I'm glad it's just my foot, and my collar bone. Other than that I'm fine." Natalie looked behind AJ and saw Brian, Nick, and Howie running towards them. "I missed you guys." Natalie said giving them all a hug. "We missed you too." Nick said. "So, Nat, who are your friends?" Brian asked noticing that Heather and Sara were standing behind her. "Oh, these are the people who kept me company out there, this is Heather, and this is Sara." Chapter 8 "Where's Kevin?" Natalie asked while the guys and Sara and Heather were talking. "Probably at home, that's where he's been for the last four days. He locked himself in, and we haven't been able to get a hold of him." Brian said. "Could someone take me over there?" She asked. "I will." AJ said. "Thanks, I'll see you guys later." She gave everyone a hug and left. "Thank you so much AJ, I'll call you later." Natalie said getting out of his car. "All right, bye." He answered. Natalie walked up to Kevin's door, and opened it, since she had a key. "Kevin, are you here?" She called out. ~I must be going nuts.~ Kevin thought to himself, ~I thought I just heard Natalie's voice.~ Just then he heard footsteps coming up the stairs, so he got off his bed and walked towards the door. "Kevin." Natalie said once she saw him come out of his room. "Natalie, oh my god, you're all right." He hugged her, and gave her a very long kiss. "I thought I lost you." Both of them were crying. "When I heard about your flight, it was like something inside of me died. I've never felt so scared in my life." He said as they walked down the stairs and headed for the living room. "You don't have to worry any more, I'm back and I'm not going any where." They sat around for a while just sitting there, not talking. They didn't need to. There are no words to describe what they felt at that moment. "Do you want to go watch a movie?" Kevin asked breaking the silence. "I would love to." Natalie answered. "I'll meet you in there." Kevin said as he headed upstairs. Natalie on the other hand walked to the theater room. "I'm back." Kevin said. "What were you doing?" She asked. "Getting a movie." "Which one is it?" "It's a surprise." So Kevin put it in, and started it. "I love this movie." Natalie said. It was "Life is Beautiful", her favorite foreign film. Kevin wasn't watching the movie very much. Instead he was watching Natalie watch the movie who was resting her head on his lap. "That's the best movie." Natalie said when it was over. Then Kevin go up acting like he was stretching, and then got down on one knee and pulled a box out of his pocket. Natalie just stared at him. "Natalie, I can't tell you how much I love you. When I thought you were gone, I could have died. I want to be with you forever, so will you marry me?" He said. Natalie just looked at him with tears streaming down her face. "Of course I will." Kevin put the ring on her finger and them gave her a kiss. To make the moment even more special, on the screen behind them were the words "life is beautiful". Epilogue Natalie and Kevin were married within a year, and made a promise to be with each other forever. As for Brian and Haley, they are engaged. Sparks didn't fly between Heather and AJ, but they are friends. The same goes for Sara and Howie. As for the rest of the crash survivors, they were on many talk shows together. Heather, Sara and Natalie stayed in touch, and are still friends. And to this day, Kevin will never forget the promise Natalie kept. ~The End~ Chapters 1-4 Back to Fanfic Back to Main Page |
