~Chapter 5~
The Birthday Party

Alyssa was the first one to show up to Daphne's party.  Brandon was next.  Everyone else came about the same time.  They had the whole room trashed in a short amount of time  After awhile they turned on the cd player.  Daphne, Kayla, and Penny had a mock Backstreet Boys concert.
"You are my fire, My one desire?"  they sang.
"Shut up!"  Everyone threw these glow in the dark stars at them.  After awhile Daphne's dad came down and told them to turn the music off.  They were all sitting around in a circle when Brandon said,
"Hey lets call my sister."  So they did.
"Laura, Brandon's in the hospital."  they said, jokingly.  They hung up.  Seconds later the phone rang.
"I need to speak to an adult in this house."
They thought they were seriously screwed and everyone had total sympathy for Brandon.
Upon returning to school that next day, they all yelled "Brandon!  You're alive!"
"Yeah, not even grounded!"
Daphne put her hand on her neck.  She noticed that she was wearing her favorite birthday present ever: Fred's Aztec Ring.

~Chapter 6~

"Hey, do you like Clairibel Smith?  asked Fred one day at the end of science
"No!"  said Libby.  "I can't stand her!  She follows me and my friends around all the time!"  she hissed.
"Hey Clairibel,"  Fred yelled.  "Can you spell scrub?"
"Shut up Fred!"  she whined.
"I can spell scrub. C-L-A-I-R-I-B-E-L."
"God Fred you're so mean!"  Clairibel was wearing a green Bay Packers shirt that day.
"Clairibel, get that shirt off!  You don't deserve to wear it!  Get it off!"
Daphne and Libby chuckled.  Realizing his mistake, Fred said,
"Oh my god leave it on!"
The next day Daphne went to Libby's house for the second times.
"So Libby, who do you like these days?"
"Yeah, like I'd tell you!"  she laughed.
"I'll tell you who I like"  she smiled.
"I know who you like you idiot!"
"Oh.  Well I'm just gonna think you like Sam Chang."
"ok ok I like Derek Bailey."
"Really?  He's cool."
"Wanna call him?"  she giggled.
"Yeah I guess we can."
They dialed his cell phone.
"It's not ringing!  What's taking so long?"
"It's a cell phone you moron."
"Oh ok.  Hello?  Is this Derek?"
"Yeah who is this?"
"It's Daphne from Social Studies Class.  I'm at Libby's house."
"Oh, ok.  Hi."
They talked to him for about a half hour.
"I must admit, I rather enjoyed talking to him."
"You don't like him do you?"
"No...."  she scolded.
In the next days Derek started hangin' out with Daphne a lot more and Libby a lot less.  The love Libby had four him lessemed as did her tolerance for her best friend.
Derek and Daphne have have many stories to tell, but hey, that's another whole book!
"Hey Daphne, wait up."  said Libby with a serious look on her face.
"What is it?"  she responded
"Look we really need to talk..."Just then Derek called for Daphne.
"Yeah uh call me or something  Gotta go thought!  See ya!"
A few days before the dance on December 17 Derek started going out with Carly Jansen.  A few hearts were broken and lots of bets were going to be lost as people betted a week or two at the most.  Daphne, however didn't mind too much.  Derek had been almost instantaneously promoted to best friend status the first time they talked, so it wasn't like she'd lose him.  But, she had developed a fondness for a certain Todd Longhurst, her dear friend who sat next to her in English.  Alyssa, who was and still is, mind you, completely clueless to all things love related even noticed the girlish giggle in her laughing.  Daphne noticed the look in her eyes when she she looked into his eyes.  She always saw this pair of Hilfiger pants that were the same color as his eyes.  She decided to dance with him...no big deal, but she vowed to dance with him if it was the last thing she did.  On December 17th a girl named Darla Mailer who was a scrubby seventh grader who generally followed Daphne and her friends around asked Todd to dance with Daphne.  They danced 5 times together.
Daphne thought maybe....if all went well and not welfare on Monday...she'd ask him out.  He got good enough grades, he was funny, nice, and not a druggie, one of Daphne's number one requirements on her checklist, and he was pretty cute.  Finally a guy she liked was taller then her!  And those eyes...sigh!  But, Daphne's anxious, more or less obnoxious best friend Alyssa decided to ask him out right away on Monday in 7th hour.  Daphne noticed an awkward silence between her and Todd, but that was normal for the After dance-Monday.  She and her group had to do their English power point presentation and she stared at him the entire time.  She couldn't turn away from those eyes.  At the end of the day, Alyssa had to fess up to what she'd done.  Out of the embarrassment and not out of Todd's shyly saying no, she cried.  I think you know what happened.
