Freetown, based in London, play rootsy, soulful reggae, and the full spectrum of ska, from traditional tunes to their own fresh new creations. In the four years they've been together, they toured extensively in Europe and the UK. The distinctive English lyrical style, together with their Anglo-Jamaican tunes and rhythms, set Freetown's music apart as something new, yet rootsy and authentic.

Freetown was formed in 1994 by Steve Harris, after he'd worked on the album Laurel Aitken: The Story So Far, for Grover Records in Germany. Freetown have since toured with Laurel Aitken as his backing band: in Ireland, Germany. Spain, Holland, France, and Scandinavia, in addition to performing with him many dated in London and the rest of the UK. The met Rico again for the Ska Island project by Gaz Mayall (1997) and for their own debut Painless in 1999
