"Young man, I'm only going to ask you one more time. Tell me where your
friend took that little girl," Chief Hinkers said. AJ tossed up his hands,
looking as annoyed as the officers standing near him.
"For the last time-I don't KNOW where he took her!He didn't tell me! I
was asleep when these goons just walked into my apartment with their
spiffy little warrant to look for her!," he cried. The chief gave him
a very warning look, and said, "That's enough."
"Take him down to the holding cell," Chief Hinkers told Officer Mitchell. "Wait a second!I'm being arrested?!? I didn't DO anything!," AJ cried.
"Young man, if you continue to use that tone with me you're going to find yourself in hot water," Cheif Hinkers warned. "Can I at least make a phone call?," he asked. The Cheif handed him the phone and he dialed Kevin's number. Somebody had to help get him out, and find Brian before social services did.
Lea giggled as Brian jogged, bouncing her on his back. He stopped running
long enough to cut across the street to the bagel shop they were going
to stop at for lunch.
Brian knew that eventually, they would find out where Lea was and they'd
come back for her. Until that happened, he wanted to make her feel safe
and happy.
"Whoa!," he cried as an older man bumped into him. He felt Lea slide off
of his back. She gasped, and clutched his hand as the man kept walking
but then turned to look back.
"LEA!," he cried. Brian realized in that split second that the man was
Lea's father. He grabbed her hand, and she instantly pulled him in the
opposite direction. "Brian, run!," she begged. He turned his back on
the man, and took off running behind her. He had no clue where they were
going, or how they'd get there.
They were coming up on an old abandoned building. Grabbing Lea's hand,
he led her inside and closed the door. A loud banging noise caused her
to scream. He'd seen them. Brian panicked....until he remembered what
he had tucked into the back of his jeans that morning.
When Lea's father busted the door down, Brian held up the gun and clicked
the safety off. Lea looked up at him, shocked. He aimed the gun at her
father's chest, and said bluntly, "Don't move."
AJ sighed as Kevin,Howie, and Nick walked into the precinct. He looked
up and met Kevin's eyes.
"Please," he begged," Just get me out of here."
"Do you realize how much trouble you're gonna be in when Lou finds out?,"
Howie asked, as the guard walked over and unlocked the door.
"I don't care, man. I want to find out what happened to Brian," he answered.
As they stepped out into the mid-day sunshine, AJ sighed,"So where do we
start looking for him at?"
