"I went out on the ice to practice my skating.I'm not very good at it to
begin with,so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try out the new skates. I bundled
up because I knew it was cold out. And I walked out into the snow," AJ
began.
"I was fine at first.I started warming up once I got my feet moving,and got
to shifting around on the ice. I skated for a while,and took a break.When
I went back to skating,I realized that some of the ice looked kind of slick.
I lost my footing or something-and heard the ice cracking.This is the most
awful sound I've ever heard."
"No matter what I did,I knew I was gonna fall through that ice.If I moved,
I would.If I stood perfectly still, I would.I leaned forward to maybe try
and dive across the ice.I never made it.The next thing I know,I'm gasping
for air.That ice wasn't cold-it was like pins being stuck in my skin.I
lost the feeling in my legs,my hands-all so fast."
"That's where I came in,"Nick interrupted,"I don't know what woke me up.
I just had this weird feeling. So,I decided to step outside. I figured maybe
some cold air would wake me up-shake me out of it.I heard this mad thrashing
sound coming from the lake.So I walked over-and found him there. I didn't
want to leave him there.But I had no choice. He couldn't get out on his
own,and the longer he stayed in that hole the worse he got."
"So I tried everything. I used a rope,I tried pulling him out. It was like
the water was freezing both of us.His hands kept slipping. Then I got out
too far.I went back for the rope,and tied it to the wooden post by the
gate. I walked back out to him,but he was gone.I dove in after him.That
was the last thing I remember."
The guys looked at each other for a long time.
"I don't know what I was thinking.I shouldn't have been out there by myself, especially that late at night," AJ said. Howie shook his head,"We're just glad you're okay."
"You know what I think we need?," Kevin spoke up.The others looked at him.
"A very nice,very quiet,very long vacation-at home," the others
couldn't have agreed more. So when AJ was released from the hospital,they
packed their bags for Florida.The excitement began to build as they planned
what they would do back home.
OKAY.....you thought it was over,right? WRONG!It seems like
the Backstreet Boys can't stay out of trouble! Stay
tuned for SPRING BREAK....a trip you'll NEVER forget!!!
