JOVI CLOSING WEMBLEY THIS WEEKEND : Bon Jovi will bring down
the curtain on the 28-year career of London's Wembley Stadium as a live music venue this
weekend with two shows. The group's concerts on Saturday (Aug. 19) and Sunday (Aug. 20) --
which will be its fourth and fifth at the 80,000-seat venue -- will be the last shows at
Wembley, which is to be demolished to make way for a new sports complex slated to open in
2003. The new, acoustically enhanced venue will continue to host live shows. Wembley opened in 1923 and hosted its first concert in 1972, a rock show featuring Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Michael Jackson holds the record for playing the most shows at the stadium, with 15 between 1988 and 1997. The Rolling Stones follow with 12 shows between 1982 and 1999.
