Debuts Strong But Elvis Still The King
Wed Oct 16, 4:57 PM ET
(10/16/02, 4 p.m. ET) -- Bon Jovi debuted impressively on the Billboard 200 with its new,
9/11-inspired album Bounce, but not strong enough to unseat Elvis Presley (news), who's
the king of the chart for the third consecutive week. More than 205,000 copies of Elvis's
Elvis 30 #1 Hits were sold during the week compared to just under 160,000 for the New
Jersey rockers' latest, according to sources.
Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora (news) told LAUNCH that it feels good to still have its
audience sticking by them and digging the new album and single "Everyday."
"You know, to be relevant in the marketplace is always a great thing, to write songs
that people can relate to," he said. "Like, 'Everyday' is a song that everyone
can relate to. It's like, 'Hey, man. Time is precious.'"
However, Bon Jovi's debut did continue the successful trend for new releases by veteran
rock acts on the Billboard 200 in recent weeks and months. Following Bon Jovi at Number
Three is the Rolling Stones' best-of collection Forty Licks, while Tom Petty (news) &
the Heartbreakers' latest, The Last DJ, is the week's second-best debut at Number Nine.
Recent classic-rock acts enjoying chart success include Bruce Springsteen (news) with The
Rising and James Taylor (news) with October Road.Related URL : http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/021016/143/2gijv.html

- BON JOVI NEARLY MISSES CHILD'S BIRTH |
| NEW YORK - Overeager fans
nearly made Jon Bon Jovi miss the birth of his son. People magazine reports Bon Jovi played a show in New Orleans on May
sixth. Somehow fans found out where he was staying, and his hotel room was bombarded with
so many calls he turned off his phone.
When his wife, Dorothea, called to tell him her water had broke, she couldn't get through.
Bon Jovi's tour manager had to break into the room to tell him the news. Bon Jovi rushed
to a private jet, and the pilot got air traffic controllers to clear air space so they
could get to New Jersey right away.
Bon Jovi made it with two hours to spare. Their son Jacob Hurley was born on May seventh.
