When Lars and James was thinking of replacing the bass-guitarist, Ron McGovney, back in 1982 they saw a band called Trauma play at The Whiskey A Go-Go. Cliff Burton played the bass in Trauma at that time and impressed James and Lars. They wanted him to join Metallica but he said that he will only join Metallica if they moved to San Francisco where Cliff lived. He played with Metallica for approximately four years after that. Cliff sadly past away in a bus accident in Sweden 1986 and was replaced by Jason Newsted.
