Indus Creed was formed by Mark Selwyn and Mahesh Tinaikar in 1984. Then known as Rock Machine, the duo recruited drummer Suresh Bhadricha, vocalist Ian Santamaria, and guitarist Aftab Currrim. Shortly afterwards these three members left, to be replaced by drummer Mark Menezes, vocalist Uday Benegal, guitarist Jayesh Gandhi and keyboardist Zubin Balaporia. This line up toured the length and breadth of India (and the USSR and Middle East) for 6 years. In 1992 Mark Menezes left to be replaced by Bobby Duggal. In 1995 Bobby left and was replaced by Adrian Fernandes.
The current band line up is
Uday, Jayesh, Mahesh, Zubin and Mark have been together since 1985.
After their second album, 'The Second Coming' released in
1990, the band felt it needed a change of identity and styles. In
a way this came from the experience of writing & recording
the song 'Pretty Child'. The Tabla
(an Indian classical instrument) was used unconventionally for
the first time in their music. Therefore a complete change of
identity was required both in the name and music and thus, in
1993 was born Indus Creed.
Date of Birth: 8th Sept. 1967
With absolutely no formal training in music and not a single prize from all those singing competitions he took part in (well just one, actually), Uday joined Indus Creed in 1985 when Mahesh spotted him at a talent contest (incidentally, he lost that one too) and asked him to audition. Since then Uday has been fronting Indus Creed as lead singer. His influences stretch from The Who to Bjork. His other talents include Squash, critical appreciation of international cuisine, English grammar & Saxophone (C major scale only).
Date of Birth: 26th Oct. 1963
Strongman of the band Jaz 'Mussels' Gandhi was recruited to bolster the sound of Indus Creed in late 1984. Along with Mahesh 'Sheesh' Tinaikar he became one half of the terrible twins of Indus Creed. Raised on a strong dose of Gujju Dal (Lentils) and Southern Rock bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels Band and old British rock, Jayesh has also been strongly influenced by the work of sessions ace Larry Carlton. His hobbies include vodka and cheap whisky. He is also naturally adept at the age old Mexican game of Tequila shots.
Date of Birth: 19th Feb 1964
Founder member Mahesh 'Sheesh' Tinaikar formed Indus Creed (then known as Rock Machine) in 1984. Known for his cool image in concert, you'll never see Mahesh jumping up and down and prancing about the stage like the other frontmen of Indus Creed, but then he has already taken a crap before the start of the show. His influences range from Michael Schenker (UFO) to Steve Lukather (Toto). Aside from playing guitar his other hobbies include cooking and ............ (to be continued as soon as we find out)
Date of Birth: 14th May 1966
As a popular story goes, no one is really sure who asked Zubin to join and why he joined remains one of the shrouded mysteries of Indus Creed. Classically trained from the tender age of six, Zubin conscientiously studied piano for about 3 weeks. He then proceeded to waste his teacher's time for the next six years. His influences include Jon Lord (Deep Purple), Tony Kaye (Yes) and Steve Porcaro (Toto). His hobbies include soccer (broken ankle and suspected concussion), cricket (college first eleven) and accounts (college last eleven).
Date of Birth: 14th Sept 1960
Founder member Mark Selwyn, popularly known as 'Daddy Cool' (for reasons that are too embarrassing to state) holds the bottom end up for Indus Creed. Real estate shark and bassist for the band since its conception, he is largely responsible for convincing the band to write original material and thereby driving it to the brink of bankruptcy. A legendary figure in the history of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) rockers, Mark is also famous for his quotes to the Indian Press. He has frequently lectured journalists on the influence of Alcohol, Rock 'n' Roll and Debbie Does Dallas on Indian audiences. His influences are Geddy Lee and early British Rock. His hobbies include bullfighting, bullshitting and being one with nature. Incidentally Mark is a vegetarian.
Date of Birth: 8th October 1967
In 1995 after auditioning two trombonists the band felt a new drummer would be more appropriate and decided to recruit Adrian. Adrian was selected because in the audition he played 2 Indus Creed songs flawlessly. Later on it was discovered that those were the only songs he knew........and so it was decided that the band would play very short concerts. Adrian's influences are Alex Acuna and Ian Paice (Deep Purple). Often spotted on stage in a red KiMono, Adrian would like to graduate to KiStereo when he grows older and has more money. His hobbies include eating, Savate and asking people if they're sure.
