ALBUM REVIEWS - WESTLIFE
LIVE&KICKING - DECEMBER 1999
Wow, what an album! By now, we all know what superb voices the Westies have, so it'll come as no surprise that this CD's an absolute cracker! As you'd expect this collection is rammed with extremely singalongable ballads and swingy tunes all three singles so far plus two wicked covers of old songs Seasons In The Sun (it'll move you to tears!) and More Than Words (orig by long-haired rockers Extreme). My fave though has to be Fool Again (the one Geri Halliwell also loves) and you can bet yer knick-knacks I'm gonna plead with the lads' record co. for it to be a single! The boys' first alb completely rocks my world and it'll rock yours too!

JAKOBSTADS TIDNING - JT MED MERA 11TH DECEMBER 1999
*** (good)
Ronan Keating as support/manager and Cheironstudio involved in the production. Sure everything's well done for the Irish quintet Westlife when they release their debut album that has the same name.
But I can not help thinking about Westlife as heir to Boyzone's throne. The same heart-breaking lyrics, same style of music and besides again five guys. Five cute guys, who can get the teenagers' hearts to beat faster. And once again from Ireland.
It's not about bad music. Everything's well finalised, well producted and neat. Plus that it's obvious when the Swedish have been working. Among others "No No", "I Need You" and "Open Your Heart" have clear marks of the well famous beating and the massive background that the guys at Cheironstudios usually get brought forth.
Amongst the 17 songs there are a couple of covers. It's not too long time ago I heard others sing "More Than Words", even though a little longer ago when "Seasons In The Sun" was to be heard in the ether media.
Almost any of the songs could be a single and succeed excellently. But if I should pick one special favourite would it be the current single "Flying Without Wings".
