Other
websites just give you the promoters hype. Promoters will tell you
that their duran duran/goth night is the most Industrial night in
the world. Here I try to give you actual reviews from someone who
doesn't work at any of these clubs, someone with an Industrial point
of view. Granted opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one...

1. QXT's BLASPHEMY
V.3 Saturdays - in Newark, NJ. (updated review 1/08/02) This
is the club you want to be at on a Saturday.
The
main floor doesn't really play much industrial after midnight, but
it doesn't claim to either. It's non-threatening EBM and club hits
so that the club can remain popular. For hardline Industrial or
Goth, you need to go to seperate rooms downstairs. The Cell is their
Industrial room, and the Lair is their goth room. They're right
next to each other, so if your significant other is a goth you won't
be that far apart.
The
sound systems in the Cell, although good, suffers from the poor
acoustics of the room. Some foam or thick curtains on the walls
would probably help kill the high frequency reflections. The lair
is larger than it used to be, and the new sound system is now stronger
than a guidos car stereo. As for the Cell, this sound system is
so loud you'll definitely want to bring ear plugs. Conversations
are going to have to be held elsewhere. This room really suffers
from a lot of treble reflections when there's not a lot of people
in it, and it's very very loud. If you're deaf, you're gonna love
it, because you're gonna hear this. It vibrates the walls, and if
you lean on them right, that can be a good thing. It's not the biggest
room, but that's okay, it's probably just the right size. It's not
like there's a thousand people that are gonna line up to listen
to hardline Industrial in NJ.
The
best thing about the Cell on Saturdays is it's resident DJ-Dysfunction.
I have always liked him and if you go, you'll see why. He plays
hardline industrial, cutting edge, old and new, and rhythmic noise
as well. For the discerning rivethead, he is the best thing about
the entire club. It's definately worth a trip from NY to see why.
As
for the Lair, well I'm not a goth, but I liked what I heard. DJ
Q played old and new goth, and stuff that used to be called "New
Music" (the alternative to alternative, or the stuff they called
alternative before they labeled a bunch of grunge rock bands alternative)
It was mostly the goth that I can stand, whatever that means.
It's
6 bucks to get in with a pass, 8 without, unless you're a 21+ woman
before 11pm, in that case it's free. (You can get a pass of QXT's
website.) The
club closes at 3 because it's in NJ, but at least it doesn't close
at 1 or 2 like Connecticut clubs. One thing worth noting, is that
there is an error all the promotional works for Blasphemy. The website
and evites say that there are drink specials until 11. Well the
bartender says they end at 10:30. If you're poor (as many rivetheads
are) that's an important note.

PLAGUE in the CELL (electro, ebm, industrial and assorted dark electronics)
MYKE HIDEOUS in the LAIR (goth, darkwave, deathrock.) Healthy size
crowd and a lot of EBM downstairs. I can say that on friday, the
Cell is primarily hard ebm instead of industrial, but at least it's
not trance, techno, futurepop or goth. Worth the trip if you're
nearby. doors 10 to 3. 18 and over. ladies 21 and over free before
11. $1 well drinks and drafts til' 11 free off street parking.
