I was born October 27, 1973. My birthplace was Coconut Grove's Mercy Hospital, Miami, Florida.
I started singing at the age of six to Deniece Williams. It was the song "Silly" that began my
repretoire. That song was the springboard.
I wasn't ever really afraid to sing in front of others. In fact, it was one of the things that I most enjoyed. I would belt out a tune whenever asked. I always wanted to be in the limelight.
My first "public" performance was at a talent show at my junior high school. I sang Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know". I came in second place. I was shocked really, I felt I could have done better. If only I had chosen another song.
After that I took a short break until my tenth grade year in high school, when I joined the school chorus. That experience really pulled me towards singing as a career. I was able to travel with the chorus and it felt so good to stand in front of a crowd. I loved the feeling of having everyone looking at us and listening to our selections with full attention. It was awesome.
At the same time I was having the same experience in my church choir. I loved singing every fourth Sunday. I realized that singing gave me a purpose and identity outside of my family and friends. Singing helped me stand out. I was known for my singing.
After I graduated from Coral Gables Senior High in 1991, I went to Tuskegee University. There, I decided not to pursue my singing and focus on getting a degree in Political Science. I often wish that I had not made that choice. I always felt that the lack of activity set me back.
In 1995 I moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There I met with Kimo Thomas and Loose Lips began talking!!!!!
