Sort of...
Ahh, yes. "Teslaboy". Sounded like a good name. Wouldn't it be cool to be a walking talking tesla-coil? Hmmm, well, anyway, it seemed like a good idea at the time!
So... who am I?
Ah, wouldn't you like to know (I'd like to know too)
What do I do?
At the moment? Not a lot. I'm "on holiday" waiting to go to university, if you must know, to study Computing Science (aaaaahahhhhh!) at Heriot-Watt University, Riccarton, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, Earth. These pages will no doubt get a lot more attention when I'm at university, so be patient if things are a bit slow to change at the moment...
What do I like?
Oooh. Lots of things! Where do I start? I seem to spend most of my time either composing music (both serious and decidedly silly stuff), producing bands (well,
band!) or sitting around doing naughty things like drinking and 'smacking the toad'. So. There you go. That's what I do, so I guess I like it. I don't work (currently) which is just as well, 'cos if I did, I'd have to put that in the next section. What do I not like?
Hmmm. Lots of things again. I'm not one for phyiscal pain / exertion / exercise / anything really. I'm a lazy bastard as most people who have met me will probably testify to. I don't like mushrooms (so don't send me any). I can't stand bigots, homophobes, racists, nazis (!) that sort of person. Oh, and I don't like that squeezy cheese you get in the yellow plastic bottles.
Why 80's bands?
'Cos I grew up with them. I had lost touch with them, but recently I started to hear their music again and sadly I could sing along to most of them (yes, regrettably even "5-star"). My all-time favourite has to be good ol' Nik Kershaw, though. What a guy. I was only just in school when he was strutting his stuff, yet it seems I was old enough to spot raw, unadulterated (well, none that I know of) talent. Yes, I managed to persuade my parents to buy "Human Racing" and from then on there was no stopping me! I've pretty much had to join the Nik mailing list, since no one else I know is quite so fanatical about him (!) so I'll try to bring you lucky people any news that I hear on the mailing list. Alternatively, if you want to join, go to the
NK Homepage for information about that.
Why 90's bands?
Honestly. I may like 80's music, but that doesn't mean I'm completely stuck in the past. I have a (probably too) varied music taste, which leads most people to believe that I just listen to
any old shit. NOT TRUE, I say.Tricky: always liked him. Not sure about the recent stuff...
The Prodigy: I was introduced to the Prodigy in 1991 by my cousin, Tobi, with their "The Prodigy Experience". I didn't like it much at first, but it grew on me and their following album, Music For The Jilted Generation was not bad at all. Current album? Bit crap I think - despite critical acclaim (I had heard most of the tracks months before hand, thanks to the
Prodigy Underground Archive.DJ Food: first heard DJ Food on John Peel's Radio One show. I now have the complete vinyl collection of the Refried Food series.
DJ Shadow: another person who Tobi introduced me to. DJ Shadow's stuff has been described as HipHop and all kinds of things, but I have come to the conclusion that it's pretty indescribable (maybe acid jazz something). My cousin put it best, by saying ,
">somebody classified Monsieur Shadow as hiphop<
Yikes. I have no idea. I wouldn't say so. More urban acid jungle. Or garage monkey spanner. Beans. Send me beans. B e a n"
Always the sane one, my cousin.
Eboman: Oh Jesus! Is my sole musical influence my bloody cousin? It would seem so - he spotted these people too. New EP Bounce To Diss is out.
Why Man... Or Astroman?
Because any band from outer space has to be good, yes? I think so. MOA are a surf-rock band from Alpha Centuri (apparently). They've got some cool WebPages, so
take a look.
Why LoFi?
I have absolutely NO IDEA. Any musical idea based on sounding as bad as possible doesn't sound like it should have got off the ground at all. Yet it has, and that is it's entire appeal. Bands to look out for are definitely The Yummy Fur, Spare Snare and Urusei Yatsura. I have just finished producing the B-Side for local band
Speedracer's first single, due out any day now as 7" vinyl.
Where Do Babies Come From?
Ask your folks.
Why All These Questions?
I don't know. I was just bored, I guess.
