Lissa: Nick, where are we going?
She looked over at him as he concentrated on his driving.
Nick: I’m not sure. I’ll let you know when I find someplace.
20 minutes ago they had been relaxing at the cottage in the woods that they’d rented with their friends for the weekend. Andrea and AJ had gone for a walk in the woods, and Kevin and Jill had decided to go into town for some shopping. Melissa and Howie had wanted to be alone together, so they’d not so subtlely suggested that Nick and Lissa go find something to do somewhere else. Melissa knew that Lissa had a thing for Nick and wouldn’t pass up a chance to be alone with him. So here they were, driving around hoping that they’d come across something. The problem was, Nick didn’t have a clue how she felt about him and Lissa was not about to just come out and tell him.
Nick: I’ve got it! I know the perfect place! Close your eyes.
Lissa: Excuse me?
Nick: Close your eyes. I don’t want you to see where we’re going. It’s a surprise.
Lissa: Okay fine. This better be good Nick.
Nick: Oh it will be.
Lissa closes her eyes and they continue driving. Soon they arrive at Nick’s mystery destination. He comes around to her side and opens the car door for her.
Lissa: Can I open my eyes yet?
Nick: No. We’re not there yet.
Nick guides her down what seems to be some kind of path until they step on something soft.
Nick: Okay, open your eyes now.
Lissa does and discovers they are on a beautiful white sand beach.
Lissa: This is beautiful! But what are we doing here?
Nick: Going for a walk.
He reaches for her hand and Lissa jumps.
Nick: Is something wrong?
Lissa: Sorry, you just startled me.
Nick: Do you mind?
Lissa: No, not at all.
They walk in silence for awhile. Nick looks like he’s lost in thought but seems to be enjoying himself. Lissa, on the other hand, is too nervous to relax. She is starting to suspect that Nick already knows that she likes him, and that is why he is acting so weird. She remembers that Nick had been talking with Howie before they left, and Howie was friends with Melissa who knew Lissa liked Nick. The more that she thinks about it, the more Lissa worries about what Nick thinks about it. She finally decides to just come out and ask him, although she’d never done anything like that before.
Lissa: Nick...
Before she can say anything else, Nick grabs her and kisses her. Lissa is too shocked to react or even kiss him back. When he lets her go, she just stands there.
Nick: I am so sorry. I promise that will never happen again. I just couldn’t help myself. I’ve liked you for so long and...
He never gets to finish because Lissa throws her arms around him and kisses him back. Nick puts his arms around her too and it is awhile before they come up for air.
Lissa: Wow!
Nick: My thoughts exactly. I guess I don’t need to ask you if you like me.
Lissa: You mean you didn’t know?
Nick: No. I had no idea.
Lissa: I thought that was why you brought me here. You and Howie were talking and looking at me before we left. Since Melissa knows I like you, I figured she had told Howie and he’d told you.
Nick: Howie was telling me not to screw things up. He knows that I like you and that I was going to try and convince you to go out with me. I guess I don’t need to do that either.
Lissa: No you don’t. I’d love to go out with you. I don’t need any convincing.
Nick grins at her.
Lissa: On second thought, it couldn’t hurt.
Nick: In that case...
He kisses her again and Lissa runs her fingers through his hair.
Lissa: We should probably be getting back soon. They’re going to be wondering where we are.
Nick: Let them wonder. I finally have you in my arms and I have no intention of letting you go anytime soon.
Lissa: Okay, if you insist.
They kiss again and neither one of them leaves that spot for a very long time.
