Part 4

Kevin and Jill have been in town for a few hours now. They finished their real shopping a long time ago. Right now they are in a department store where Jill is trying on clothes for fun. Kevin is waiting outside the dressing room for her.

Kevin: Jill, I’ll be right back okay?

Jill: Sure.

About 20 minutes later Kevin comes back, just as Jill emerges from the dressing room.

Jill: Okay I’m all done...

She stops as she notices Kevin’s appearance. He is wearing a brand new navy blue suit.

Kevin: How do I look?

Jill: Do you even need to ask? But where do you think you’re going to wear that?

Kevin: The same place where you’ll be wearing this.

He holds up a long bright blue dress that he’d been hiding behind his back.

Kevin: Do you like it?

Jill: Of course I do. But why are we getting dressed up?

Kevin: We’ve been talking for awhile about going out on a date but for some reason we never got around to it. So I figured why wait any longer? I called the only nice restaurant they have in this town and made us a reservation. I hope that you don’t mind that I made these plans for us without telling you. I wanted to surprise you.

Jill: I don’t mind at all. It’s actually kind of sweet.

She looks at the dress that’s still in Kevin’s hand.

Jill: And this is my favourite colour.

Kevin: I know. Now hurry up and put it on so we can go.

Jill takes the dress from him and kisses him quickly on the cheek before heading back to the dressing room to change her clothes. At the restaurant, Kevin gets them a secluded table in the corner, and they order their dinner and a bottle of wine.

Kevin: I’d like to make a toast. Here’s to our first official date, and hoping that it’s the first of many.

They clink their glasses and take a drink. As she’s drinking her wine, Jill notices that Kevin is staring at her.

Jill: What’s wrong? Why are you staring at me?

Kevin: You’re just so beautiful. I can’t help it.

Embarrassed, Jill starts blushing.

Jill: Kevin, I know we’ve already ordered, but is it that important to you that we actually eat dinner here?

Kevin: Not really. Why?

Jill: Because there’s something I want to do and I think we might get kicked out for it.

Kevin: And what’s that?

She gets up from her seat and walks around to Kevin where she sits down on his lap.

Jill: This.

She kisses him passionately and Kevin kisses her back. As Jill predicted, when a waiter notices what they’re doing, they are politely asked to leave. Kevin pays for their dinner and they head for the door where they discover that it has started to rain.

Kevin: What are we going to do now?

Jill: Well, if you don’t mind, I’d like to go for a walk anyways. I like the rain.

Kevin: That’s okay with me.

He kisses her again before they leave the restaurant holding hands.
